FWST: Big 12 discusses bowl pecking order

IRVING -- Big 12 athletic directors worked Tuesday to determine the league's preferred bowl lineup with the anticipation that the Cotton Bowl will become part of college football's new playoff system.

The 2-hour discussion about bowl alignment took up a bulk of the agenda as the ADs wrapped up a two-day meeting with Commissioner Bob Bowlsby and other league officials that also involved football scheduling.

Most of the first day was spent discussing the makeup of the 10-team league and "what-if" scenarios about staying at that number or eventually expanding.

According to Forbes, the Big 12 will generate about $26.2 million per team this school year through network television deals, bowl games and NCAA tournaments. That's the highest per-team average of any conference. ...

Ban user. San An is much better than Pinstripe and wherever we went in Arizona. AZ is a waste land of desert - might as well go to Lubbock.

I didn't like AZ either. Did not love the experience at Fiesta even outside of the loss. Now the Rose Bowl, meant to stay a weekend but afterwards took a week off of work and stayed out there celebrating.

I think it's a great idea to ditch Pinstripe for a bowl in Florida. Pinstripe is kind of a waste.

The Alamo Bowl is a dump, and San Antonio, as a city not too far behind.

Could not disagree more. The high-dollar suburbs NW of the city proper and around the medical center and UTSA, and of course most of Alamo Heights, are just as hoity-toity as most anything in DFW, The rest of the city including the downtown is certainly not sanitized, but calling it a "dump" makes the poster sound prissy, and I know that isn't the case for PPD although not so sure about bonner (jk).

Someone that can't find a good time in San Antonio, I feel sorry for. And even if so, Austin is 90 miles up the road-- although most of the fun parts of Austin are not particularly sanitized, either.

I don't mind the Alamo Dome, but SanAn is a dump. Finally someone who agrees.

Seriously? San Antonio is a very old city that has retained its history better than any city in Texas...and that makes it a dump? Word of advice...don't bother travelling to Europe as it will fail to meet your standards as well.

OK, let me clarify, especially since Bonner agreed with me to some extent.

1. Alamo Dome for football - I've been to one football game and the NCAA Final Four there - both experiences were poor. Also, the Alamo Bowl has historically been one of the lower paying bowls amongst the "big boys". I would not want this to be the flagship bowl.
2. San Antonio - I have never lived in San Antonio, but traveled there frequently on business as well as having relatives that do live there. Airport sucks, it is spread out like Houston with none of the pluses, and the river walk blows

None of my comments were hygiene, history, or otherwise related.

As stated by another poster, the area of NW SA is very nice. Ever been out Sea World or Six Flags Fiesta Texas? That area is pretty exclusive and very scenic . Try staying at the Westin Resort next to Fiesta Texas. Very beautiful and luxurious. Great on site golf course.

I actually enjoy the clusterfuhh that is the Riverwalk. Late November thru pre Christmas is neat on the Riverwalk with the seasonal festivities going on. Temp is also right around that time.

I love to visit ol San Antone. As for the stadium, What the Heck?? It's a football stadium, not a theatre. Last I saw, it was a field 53 yards wide by 120 yards long, striped, marked and relatively flat.

I enjoy reviewing historical sites in San Antonio, and environs. Pretty good golf, but I don't play much anymore.

La Fonda outdoor restaurant is awesome, and fun, if you have the right mindset.

Riverwalk is not disgusting. I always hit at least 4-5 spots up and down over the course of the night, almost always ending with sing along at the Irish Pub.

I like San Antonio, but I would not want to live there.

The Shops at La Cantera in San Antonio beats the hell out of most any shopping area in the state if that is of interest to you or your wife/girlfriend. It is definitely high end shopping.

Look...San Antonio is old with significant amount of preserved history, but there are plenty of new parts that rival most places in Texas. Despite its size, I find it very easy to get around town.

People that don't like San Antonio must not like the state of Texas because they are one and the same in my opinion. San Antonio is a slice of Texas all in one location.

Yup. Boykin/Bonner has very strong opinions on a lot of things and I bet most of his opinions don't have any facts or real experiences to merit them.

Read a few years back that SA was the number one tourist destination in the state: Fiesta Texas, Sea World, the Riverwalk, The Cradle of Texas History (Alamo to you Yanks), El Mercado, La Fogata Restaruant, ...just to name 1/100th of the attractions there.
