UT System expands free tuition and fees to all undergraduates whose families make $100,000 or less

I wonder if this is a tiered thing, meaning if a family making $105,000/year gets most of their tuition free, but maybe not all.

Families making between $100-200k kind of take it in the shorts on this kind of stuff. They make too much to qualify for all the handouts, but not enough to really afford college tuition and other high dollar things.

If it was tiered, they might have mentioned that. Just guessing. Don't know.

UT Permian Basin has been offering this for a year or two. I’m not sure why they were ahead of the rest here. Perhaps a pilot program. I believe some of the costs were subsidized by petro-dollars out here.
As I understand it, if you meet the qualifications and your income is under $100k AGI you would qualify for 100% tuition coverage plus fees. No income tiers.

Personally, I hate the idea of giving up on majors in liberal arts. My wife and I were business majors because we wanted to chase the almighty dollars, which worked out. In retrospect, both of us wish we would have pursued undergraduate degrees in something other than accounting and finance, then attended MBA programs. I see both sides of this argument as we wanted our kids to end up with something practical.

At some point people should just stop going to college. For sure they should stop going to college to get degrees that are, let’s face it, pretty stupid…..like most liberal arts degrees.
Private schools definitely… it would be wiser to give your child $250,000 to purchase a small Business than send them to a private college

I would agree in some circumstances....by in large, though, the current generation is woefully equipped to work hard, pay attention to details, and follow through without oversight. Much needed attributes to run a small business.
