I hear what you're saying on the Christian thing. Not that I want us to be like Baylor, with our noses in the air and thumbs up our asses. But when you put together a pro-Gay living community in a dormitory . . . jeez, I don't know what some people are thinking.

so 'not Christian anymore' = being more tolerant?

I hear ya - we had some crappy curains that helped somewhat. It really just added to my desire to drink more beer or take a dip in that dicey "pool" they had. That thing was pretty gross.

Brackish water, poured pebble deck. About the size of 2 Hummers. Always desolate. I'd hit the pools over at a couple of the Hulen complexes, though. Or Colby Beach.

Also, all these new buildings suck.

Scharbauer is a cheap mess, all of its walls are made out of paper-thin drywall. Some kids may be happy it's Eco-certified, but in 15 years that whole thing is going to have to be completely gutted and remodeled. I saw it going up, and the only concrete in there is in the supports. It's a cheap joke.

Those 4 new dorms in the middle are the same way. A few years ago one of my buddies lived in there. We used to joke that if I was ever talking smack about him while he was in his room, he'd just punch through the wall into the living room and take me out.

Sherley's all right now, but it's weird whenever I hear a guy saying he lives in Sherley. Takes me a minute to remember. The theatre's cool, but all those little tv screens in the basement are kind of redundant.

We'll see how Milton turns out. Hope it's not too different, and I hope they bring back the tennis courts between it and the rec.

As for the Grandmarc, that place is a [Deleted]hole. Example: I went in there a few months ago, only to find out that the new tradition is for frat boys to pee in the Grandmarc elevators. I could go on, but I'd rather not think about it.

Best housing on campus these days is in the TBPW apartments.

Also, Craig Allen is horse's [Deleted]. just thought I'd throw that out there.

I don't think anyone ever got into the Bellaire Condo pool during my 4 years at TCU. And if they did, they were not sober.

Tolerance is different from advocacy. I don't care if someone's gay, that's up to them. And hey, if that group wants to start its own union on campus, I think that's fantastic. More power to them.

But it shouldn't be the administration of a Christian school that sets the whole thing up.

TCU has finally completed the purchase of the Bellaire Condos.

Not so sure on that one...have a good friend that owns the final three.

On the other hand, they just put up some nice statues in Scharbauer. One is a Mary and Child sculpture, and the other is of John the Baptist. So those were nice to see.

Yeah, you know what Jesus said about gays........ exactly.

TCU has finally completed the purchase of the Bellaire Condos.

Any thought of that being torn down and replaced with a new

resident hall or additional parking? It's also rumored that the

University has purchased additional land on Berry Street...just

east of Pascal High School.

Referring to the Plaza Bellaire Condo (between Bellaire Drive North

and Kent Street) The remaining three condos were purchased on

March 12, 2010.

I never saw anyone swimming there, either.

Cool. That would be a perfect site for a parking garage - it's a bit out of sight, but it's close to the stadium. That could also be a good spot for a softball field.

TCU plans additional housing, upgrades continue

BY ALESHIA HOWE

Parking lots are place holders

In the past, Allen said he has heard architects and planners say parking lots can become good place holders for future buildings. "And what TCU is fortunate in is it's got a lot of place holders," he said.

"At some point, we'll have to do garages because we can't take up all of the lots, but we've got plenty of land to grow," he said. "… We're fortunate that we're not landlocked. We've got quite a bit of land."

Construction should begin yesterday on a garage at Greene and Lowden. I'd pay a premium to park there.

Yes, there is plenty of parking--if you park literally a mile away and wait 15 minutes for the shuttle that may or may not come.

Can someone explain to me why we don't have a softball team? Seems like TCU and softball would be a perfect fit.

I'm still wondering the same thing. I do know that when Nolan Ryan was an assistant coach for our baseball team, he had talked to Hyman about starting up a girls softball team for the university. Hyman shot down the idea even though Ryan offered to finance the program himself to get it started.

Non revenue sport, Title IX requirements, soccer was popular in the 70's, softball has made huge advances in the last 20 years.

I say switch 'em...today.

Soccer is also, I believe, a non-scholarship sport. And soccer (especially among women) is more popular now than it was then. And they already have the stadium. I think they've studied adding softball, but I doubt it'll be at the expense of soccer, or anything else.

I think they give schollies, to balance out the title reqs. The stadium would be great for intramurals. I would wager there are more girls (ages 8-18) in the south and west playing softball than soccer.

Soccer and softball are roughly equal nationally in the high schools.

And you are correct about the scholarships. I was mistaken.
