He is the perfect coach for TCU. He squeezes every drop out of the limited resources he has. He should be up for coach of the year for building/getting this squad to the NCAA’s and beating Ohio St. In my few conversations with him, he loved Pitt and probably would have stayed (my opinion) if they had not treated him shabbily after all he did for them. It is the old story of being a victim of his own success. Kind of like GP who will lead the nation in defense within a year or two at USC, but we ran him off.
Gary’s well ran dry - it was like watching Tom Landry’s final 2 seasons. A change of scenery will do everyone some good. I fully expect to see CGP being successful at USC with renewed enthusiasm. By the same token - I like where our football is headed with new OC and QB’s. I also expect our D to have a breakout year!

Gary wasn’t a victim of his own success, his last few teams were just poorly coached and weren’t any good. He ran himself off with his stubbornness.

Dixon was winning 20+ games when he was run off.

Yeah GP just got stupid and forgot how to coach. Poor USC.

Sonny hasn't been great, but his performance relative to the support (pay-for-play $) he gets is a hell of a lot better than some give him credit for.
Frogs should have won 10-11 each of the last 2 years, so Sonny is an idiot.

All I remember about GP’s final years were that he started DEs who weighed 195 & 210 pounds. He didn’t give himself a chance to win with that lousy recruiting.

I hope he crushes it at USC, but the Frogs were very mediocre his last four years here.

I've warmed up to him a bit. I think he is a decent coach and I never did think he was a jerk or anything, but it's still hard to watch him. He's barking instructions on literally every pass, every cut, every single thing that happens in a game. It never stops. I really don't see ANY other top coaches doing that, even the most "intense" ones. Most all just kind of watch and then during dead balls they might say something if needed. He coaches during a game like his players have no idea what they are supposed to be doing. I know that second part isn't true but man, just sit down and let them play sometimes.
Most of the other top coaches have Parade All Americans (if that’s still a thing).

Gary’s last good season was the year Sonny was his assistant HC at TCU. I was thinking when Sonny went to SMU we let the wrong coach get away.

So Sonny comes back with a slate of new coaches and gets us to the Natty. I don’t think CGP would have gotten us there. Think we need to give CSD some credit here.

Yeah that 2022 talent sucked. Poor Sonny the cupboard was bare. NOT

The pandemic years were abnormal.

I don't take 9-win seasons lightly. Still it's those handful of games the last couple of years we should have won that kept us out of the bigger picture that is bothersome.
Agree, could have easily been an over rated 10-2 or 11-1 last year. Had atleast 2 stupid losses the year before as well.

I am encouraged by the bowl performance as well as the fact that most of the draftable seniors played in the bowl game. Also like that we've done some housecleaning this spring.

I don’t follow Pitt. I believe you did not have success with the coach that followed Dixon. What is the state of the program? I watched Pitt games when Dixon was there because of him.
Dumpster fire, some highlights.

Hired Kevin Stalling from Vanderbilt, who took back 90% of a team that made the tourney, and went like 5-13 in the ACC. His second year, went 0-18 in the ACC and was fired.

We hired Jeff Capel, who has one first four appearance, one first four out, and every other year a total disaster.

Let it go, Wex - it is part of who he is as a coach and you are exaggerating as most everyone does these days (the bad normal that we all have to put up with while people make a point), and the players like him, and he is very good coach, not just a decent coach.
Those same complaints are the exact same things many in the Pitt fanbase would whine about..of course then we got Jeff Capel who is the definition of a coach who just rolls the ball out and we are absolutely awful.

Bottom line Dixon gets more out of the talent he has than just about any coach in the country,
