I believe the story was that Mac cut TCU a $1mm bad check for the 2001 Gallery Furniture Bowl. That was the Casey Printers debacle. That was so long ago, and I could be conflating facts, rumors and legend.

That first iteration of his band was top notch. Those first two albums (Eat 'em and Smile/Skyscraper) were great with guitarist Steve Vai (former Frank Zappa), bass player Billy Sheehan (former Talas), and drummer Gregg Bissonette. It feels like he caught lightning in a bottle in that brief period. He never really got back to that place once that band fell apart.
