Football questions

Burner1

Tier 1
From what I have read, with spring training wrapped up it looks like the football team has these question marks remaining:
1) kickoffs
2) snapper
3) offensive tackle opposite Cannon
4) inexperienced backup QBs

We don't know who the starting RB or LDE will be, but whoever wins the job will be good. The secondary seems to have firmed up with Thompson and Williams stepping forward. Linebacking will either be outstanding with Carder or pretty darn good without him. Everything else seems set.

Perhaps one more big question -- will the 2010 team get a big head (2004) or will they continue to work their butts off to finish what was started in 2009?

Is that about right?

If those are the only questions we have, we're in damn good shape. However, I think LB and back up CBs and DTs are question marks as well.

Carder getting hurt really opened it up for Cain & Burks to show what they can do and LBer is looking to be a very strong 3 deep. Brock, Carder Cain, Burks, & Gardner plus add Mallett & Roberts in June and hopefully Isadore is back then and you have one great bunch of LBers even if one moves to another position.

CB with McCoy, Teague & Williams look good so the big question will be the 4th. Battle-Smith was to get a jump on that spot but injuries limited him to just learning from the sidelines. Better than nothing but not ideal either. Between Kevin White and Battle-Smith we should get a young but very good cover corner.

The DTs just look like beasts 3 deep and then some so not sure why that is a problem.

To me it is more about injuries. Carder appears out for year with long re hab so that stings even though we have depth. D Smith appears headed for redshirt following ACL surgery but we have depth there. I think both players would make us better but it is a testament to how far we have come as a program that we have so much quality depth.

Both are supposed to be back by the fall

so what's the word here? I hadn't heard anything official about D Smith having surgery to repair an ACL.

Edit: And I definitely haven't heard Carder would be out for the year. Are you drinking this early?

DS Surgery is already done. Carder has 6 - 9 month re hab ahead. We need a miracle for him to be ready. Just the facts.

BTW, not averse to occasional morning beers with friends. You are a smart guy. Sure you can vet my info.

Report in the Star Telegram stated that Carder's diagnosis wasn't as serious as first thought, and he would be back by the season opener. Do you know something different, or are you just going off old info?

What I heard yesterday and they brought up CGP's diagnosis. I tend to trust the guy that told me. DS has a better shot of being ready than Tank according to him. Regarding DS, he said why rush it with our depth.

Really thought this was old news or I would have started a thread. I hate the search function and didn't want to get lectured by GDUsche. That is why I posted matter of fact. Think CGP just protecting the kids as usual. In a good way.

I haven't seen either of the things you say anywhere. Not saying you are lying (bc I wouldn't be surprised if either or both were true), but I haven't seen/heard it anywhere else. I figured we'd get some news at the Austin CGP/CDC event next Thurs.

No need for namecalling.

The person hangs out it operating rooms and such. Go figure. Just disregard it as LOOK AT ME type posts. Really thought this was a few days old since DS surgery. Wow! I could have had a thread without hearing USE THE SEARCH FUNTION!

Regarding name calling I will see if my Word Completion Program is still running. I typed gdu...

Funny! Person works with gas masks. Anyway, they said Carder injury requires very long rehab. DS already had acl surgery. My history is ACL in football is 6 months for an athlete in a weight program. 9 months for a civi. Could be sooner but appears we are without both for 2010.

Judging by the description for Tank's, it sounds like a rotator cuff issue. But the length of time you listed for the rehab indicates that it is a significant RC injury. I hope that if both are out for the year, that the backups (for LB at least) fill in solidly and get some good experience.

I think someone's crystal ball was cracked about Carder injury.
