The PAT was blocked and recovered in the field of play. The player who recovered retreated into the endzone, pitched to another player in the endzone, who was tackled there for the down.
It happened in the Texas-A&M game my last year of college. I'm glad that Nessler remembered, because he was BAFFLED back then. I've never forgotten the rule either.
Any event that leads to a safety on a TRY(PAT!!) will result in a 1 point safety, not a 2 pt safety. I didnt see the play but if this what we are talking about this is the ruling. On a blocked PAT that is returned by the defense, we all know the D receives 2 pts...If a PAT is blocked and it is live, if defender picks up and retreats to end zone, the resulting safety is only 1 pt
Several years ago there was a play where a team tried for a two point conversion. They threw a pass that was intercepted and it was ran back for a "TD" which resulted in 2 points for the other team. I believe it was an Ohio State game, but not positive. Have never seen the 1 point play though.
Agree. There should have been a flag for illegal forward pass. But the penalty enforcement would have resulted in a 1-point safety. I think the crew experienced a collective "Oh S*^t" moment when that play started taking shape and they froze on the illegal forward pass. It happens.
