I think we have some nepotism with Morris. I've heard that his dad is a coaching friend of Dykes. I think they want him to be the guy for his dad, and not what the team wants. Two years in a row we've seen the team rally along side a different QB than Morris. In this world of NIL and just general "equality", players and teams see through giving the job to friend's kid and what the right player to be in that position. Similar situation at OSU this year, and Gundy putting his son in at QB.

I was under the impression when we hired him that evaluating quarterbacks was his forte.
Depends on the player’s last name.

I can't believe Sonny (or any other P5 HC who makes the big bread) is a full bore nepotist. He's certainly is NOT that stupid.

Maybe he's (and the other TCU coaches who are in the QB decision) was not in his full mind. I can't believe that he's gonna give the football to ANYONE who can't do the job who will lead to W's. That would be job suicide - short and long term.

Maybe he's just a bad talent evaluator and shouldn't be the coach period. Maybe it was the TCU "bosses" who hired SD who should be poked for this failure.

Other than SD having a more comfort with a QB he "knows" a little more intimately, I just don't believe that nepotism was what was at play in choosing CM two seasons in a row as the #1.

Dykes has certainly heard about the criticism on the QB issue. The Morris decision is secondary to me. The moment he saw the reaction on the field from his team and how well they played, that would have rattled my teeth and embarrassed me to death. If it took that long for the realization to sink in....... God, I hope not. So I'm trying to guess what his explanation will be.

We’ll hear his explanations tomorrow.

Do you realize that Dykes himself is a product of Nepotism?

Sometimes when you grow up around doing something a certain way, you don't even realize what you're doing is wrong or not the best way.

Prepare yourself for some USDA Primo Coach speak tomorrow
If I were he, I'd come up with a quick 24-hour stomach flu because he's going to get roasted and unfortunately for him, this floppy ear mistake will follow him on all critical decisions.
For a man who has been around the bend for many years, he should know better. A personal decision based on a relationship and not his team or employer! It flat-out doesn't bode well for any important decisions, and can you trust him to do what is right for the team and university? Paid attendance last week for BYU was in the low forties and for that game, it should have been a sell-out. Re: results of other games played.

I agree it should have made him question himself...but why didn't he do everything under the stars to bring in another mobile QB like Max?

Because, if certain people and comments are to be believed, Chandler was the heir and it kept certain qbs from wanting to come here.
No, every team has a new QB come in every year. We just chose not to bring in a freshman last year.when we should have had our pick of the litter.

But…but….the freshman last year was Morris.

We have issues across the board. Now, while I dont think anyone in their right mind, with the number of players that moved on, would have expected a second playoff run, this is rediculous. We are supremely talented at the skill positions and big and fast enough at the skill positions to produce much more than we have. On D, they just need to get rid of Gillespie. His game planning is beyond awful. We are not good enough up front to get pressure with three. And him playing the linebackers 7 yards deep just says "go ahead, run all over me." At its core this disaster is a failure of coaching. Plain and simple. I wasnt a fan of the Dykes hire from the beginning and this is why. Any Dykes team ever had the same issues. Even SMU. Every year he started 6-1, 7-0 and ended up 7-5, 8-4. Thats because he does not require accountability of players and coaches and his coordinators think their schemes can overcome their lack of attention to detail. So when the played the better teams, they lost. Except now, he is in the Big 12, not the AAC, which magnifies the issues. If we dont move on quickly, we will be a program, not a team, that has to be rebuilt. And that is nowhere we want to be.

As is Kendal Briles, who shouldn’t have anything to do with our program whatsoever.

Darn baylor!
Bump from page 6. Sonny makes North of 5m. With that comes hard decisions. Mediocrity should not get paid that much. Contracts like his should be based on meritocracy. Do well, get paid!! Suck, and it's gonna cost you. At Tulsa, Gillespie was making around $400k. Here he's probably making $700+. Since Sonny isn't making appropriate decisions, I'd put him on notice. Show us how you are going to make positive changes and do it. If not, you're gone next year. TCU deserves better. We do not want to be purple Cal.
