Mcalister 0 touches in the first half. Should be fired for that alone
I think that Briles and his isolated staff unable to penetrate the bubble around KB were unable to remind the dude that last week was last week. McCallister is not getting double teamed on over 30% of his passes.

Fort Worth is a bizarro media sports market. In at least a dozen smaller media markets, KB would be grilled on why your NFL wide receiver did not get the ball in the 1st half, Briles needs to show up post-game.

Problem with Briles is he calls plays and hasn’t designed a system. Hoover has one play and one player to hit. Everything else is a distraction.
I totally agree. All plays are just relying on the talent of our players. There is no strategy. There is no scheme. There is no adjusting to the defense. And Briles’ nepo-baby incompetence of swag and style over system just kills us when our talent makes mistakes and against teams with half a brain for team defense.

@Tyson in shambles right now, but I do hope you have a good Thanksgiving with your son. I just hope he's unemployed by then.
now would be a good time - KB's house is under major repair from a leak, so they have moved into a rental while the work is being completed. Would be easy to just put it on the market with fresh interior....

And can't get a play off after a tv break without having a delay of game.

This is why I can't defend KB anymore. KB was averaging almost 7 yards a carry. Insane.

If the season keeps going south (offensively), and Sonny doesn't make changes at OC and OL for '26, I won't be able to back him anymore either.

I'm not able to back him now. You have more patience than I do .

why ya backing him now? Sonny also wants that type of offense that tape fingers is running.

everyone wants to forget that Sonny is an air raid guy. a guaranteed 4 loss a year mike leach/hal offense deciple.

that's what it is. a high school offense that is based on just "run this here ... do this here".

I will say that I get why this scheme abandoned the run. They were behind and got anxious about wanting to catch up.

It’s still criminal how well we were doing with it though, and for them to then completely abandon it altogether even with being behind.

I’m typically not a “fire everyone” type of guy and I’m still not in this case with respect to Dykes. He doesn’t get enough credit for the total overhaul and increase of talent that he’s brought since coming on board. Just looking at the body types of guys we have now, it is night and day compared to GP’s last 5 years.

The issue I have with Briles is that the guy refuses to stick with ‘old school’ football, even when it works. We were rushing for 7 ypc on Saturday and he still feels the need to run the bubble screen game. In those situations 99% of coaches in America hammer the run until the two high safety look gets abandoned, but KB can’t stomach it. Instead we’re asking a WR (who is typically soft and doesn’t want to get physical in the run game) to push someone off the ball. It doesn’t work. We got down 14-7 and he totally panicked.

You can talk about personnel issues on the OL all you want, but the reality is that running the football is the most important facet of the game. Even for us, a team with subpar OL talent, you continue to do it because of the benefits - you keep the D honest and keep your own D on the sideline. KB just thinks he’s got to be innovative on every down- to have some exotic motion before he flips out another screen. It’s stupid, it doesn’t work after the first few attempts and there is so much more that can go wrong than right. He is trying too hard to be an offensive genius and instead looks like a dumbass when it doesn’t work. I would rather run it up the gut 100 times for 2 yard gains as opposed to asking a slot receiver to single block a safety 22 times per game on bubble screens.

It won’t change though, and we’ll continue to suck offensively.

On the talent, it seems better but it doesnt seem to match the rankings or the praise it receives here. Our defense is still 75th and doesnt seem to generate pressure without a blitz and offense is better but influenced by high volume passing yards that dont seem to matter much when we have to have it against good teams.

Good post, and mostly agree.

I gotta say, I hate the WR screens. Always have. But if you're gonna do them, at least make sure the ball is thrown forward. The risk vs reward is totally out of whack otherwise. For the most part though, the "play call" stuff gets tiresome to me. When plays work, they are great calls. When they don't, they aren't. What my eyes tell me is that for the most part Briles does a great job designing plays that get people open. There is nothing wrong with his offense, in fact I think it's pretty damn good. What he struggles with in my opinion is calling plays relative to the situation. More than once I've scratched my head at what seem to be odd calls for what the down and distance or game situation was.

All the crap about sexual assault and stuff is just that, crap. I have no problem with him coaching here and by all accounts from people who don't have an axe to grind he's a perfectly fine person.
