Maybe the guy that should get more blame is at SC?My question for Sonny is, as a supposed QB guru, why he couldn't use that supposed talent to develop Josh better. A lot of this is on Sonny himself.

I’m not sure why we’re “blaming” anyone, Hoover was so highly thought of that he was the 41at rated QB recruit in his class. The staff did a pretty good job of developing him, 4 years later he’s probably considered one of the 10-20 best QBs in all of college football.Maybe the guy that should get more blame is at SC?
:::channeling Wednesday voice:::I was really hoping for an interception.
Just wait for the one on one drills or 7v7.I was really hoping for an interception.
5 points for the Lagway hit.Bush league is 42 turnovers in 31 games. Bush league is ranking 2nd in interceptions thrown in all of FBS for ‘25, of course nobody beats Lagway for interceptions.
Hoover crapped his pants in every big game.
Hover’s highest (only) ranked victory was UH in ‘25, and he even threw 3 interceptions in that game, so TCU won in spite him.

If Hoov would have stayed, we would have lost the Alamo Bowl.Hoover had a good enough defense here to win big games. Did Hoover hold UH to 14 points, or did he throw 3 picks? Did he turn the ball over 2 times in a row on the last two possessions against ASU? Did he have a scoop and score fumble and pick-6 against KSU? Did he throw multiple picks and no scores against BYU? Did he fumble the ball against Baylor and nearly cost his team the game? Pretty sure the defense had nothing to do with any of that. Might want to ask Hoover about that Curt.
But okay totally fair slap back about our run game. Although…Hoover certainly didn’t help in that aspect when he was here.
But, again, this is so dumb. Sonny wasn’t “calling out” Hoover. But Curt never misses a chance to run his mouth a little.
His comments were correct, but still no need to say it, so I don't know if it was justified.Okay here are some stats to put this to bed.
Stats against teams with a .500 or better record in 2026:
- Completions: 62%
- Passing YPG: 299 yards
- Touchdowns: 14
- Interceptions: 11
- Fumbles: 4
-TD/TO ratio: 14:15
So yes his completion % and yards per game against good competition is pretty good. But where his game fell apart was turnovers. He had more turnovers (15) than touchdowns (14) against above .500 teams. His record in those 7 games was 3-4.
So yes, Sonny’s comments are correct and justified.
I think it depends upon the context; I don't know if there was any relevant context to his comments. His comments were correct, but still no need to say it, so I don't know if it was justified.
Coach the team you have the best you can and leave it at that. How many turnovers we had last year is pretty meaningless as far as this year's team is concerned.
Maybe so. I thought he specifically said, paraphrasing, "our QB turned the ball over", would have sounded a lot better to just say "we turned it over". That too me sounds like he's deflecting blame and throwing Hoover under the bus a bit.I think it depends upon the context; I don't know if there was any relevant context to his comments.
If he was asked, how do you intend to improve upon last year, it could be very relevant to discuss how your offense will be focused on reducing turnovers.
It seems pretty clear that he wasn't bagging on Hoover; the article/headline tried to make it sound that way for clicks.
It's in the tweet linked in the article at the beginning of this thread. He actually said, Josh started 31 games, and in those games we turned the ball over - he turned the ball over - 42 times.Maybe so. Again, I like Sonny, but he's a little thin-skinned like his predecessor at times. FWIW, I also don't like the way he yells at refs when they make correct calls that go against us. Argue the bad ones!
Seems the norm in business. Blame the guy who just left.Maybe the guy that should get more blame is at SC?
It works for a couple of months anyway.Seems the norm in business. Blame the guy who just left.
