Essentially Sports: TCU HC Takes Shot at Indiana QB Josh Hoover While Curt Cignetti Sees Glass Half Full

The worst part about the sound bite without context (and that is all people are reading because the media likes to troll without context) is that it may have the current Frog QB’s feeling uneasy, worried about throwing picks and being thrown under the bus like it appears Dykes just did with Hoover. Doesn’t look good to the current team - on Day 1 of the new season the head coach makes the first locker room mistake.

Sunny is giving the media the facts so he doesn't have to deal with the weekly drama. He's in a no win.

If Hoover plays well, then they say TCU is a feeder school.
If Hoover plays bad, then they say he play bad competition.

Sonny is pointing out that he had some warts to begin with, so don't pester me when Hoover play good/bad.

Lead story on the Yahoo podcast

“It wasn’t taken out of context. That was the context.” Then proceeds to not give the context.

WHAT. The context is that the whole philosophy of the new offenses to not turn the ball over, and Hoover did that a lot. These two bozos are adding false context to this entire thing that has nothing to do with what Sonny was talking about.

Yeah, I never really paid attention to hype before the season. As a wise philosopher once said, "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth."

It's all good now, all the newcomers are going to be upgrades. We'll see what happens when there are missiles fired back in September.
We have had talented offensive lineman even recently but I feel like they rarely play well as a unit and we don’t have near enough depth.

Watched it twice. Coach was commenting on the offensive coordinator Briles and coaching more than the QB. Hoover may still take offense since he seemed to have strong affection for Briles.

Sometimes when people mince words and try not to say what they mean (Briles), it comes out weird.

I usually think Sonny is pretty savvy but that was a bush league comment. Small.
Bush league is 42 turnovers in 31 games. Bush league is ranking 2nd in interceptions thrown in all of FBS for ‘25, of course nobody beats Lagway for interceptions.
Hoover crapped his pants in every big game.
Hover’s highest (only) ranked victory was UH in ‘25, and he even threw 3 interceptions in that game, so TCU won in spite him.

Some of those were on Hoover. Some of those were on the OL that kept him under pressure and on the run way too much.

I like what I am hearing from and about the new guy, brings a new dimension to the position and says he always has a plan on where he is going with the ball.
The TCU OL had little to do with Hoover’s constant turnovers.

2025:
TCU Hoover 413 Attempts, 18 Sacks, 13 INTs
IU Mendoza 379 Attempts, 25 Sacks, 6 INTs

IU’s line was not good at pass blocking. Mendoza was under much greater pressure than Hoover, yet he threw less than half of the interceptions that Hoover did.

Cignetti fired back

Hoover had a good enough defense here to win big games. Did Hoover hold UH to 14 points, or did he throw 3 picks? Did he turn the ball over 2 times in a row on the last two possessions against ASU? Did he have a scoop and score fumble and pick-6 against KSU? Did he throw multiple picks and no scores against BYU? Did he fumble the ball against Baylor and nearly cost his team the game? Pretty sure the defense had nothing to do with any of that. Might want to ask Hoover about that Curt.

But okay totally fair slap back about our run game. Although…Hoover certainly didn’t help in that aspect when he was here.

But, again, this is so dumb. Sonny wasn’t “calling out” Hoover. But Curt never misses a chance to run his mouth a little.

Sonny is deflecting blame because he accepts ZERO responsibility.

Hoover will get 6 easy games before Ohio State at home.

If you look at those Hoover involved TOs, you recognize most of the TOs should have been corrected by elementary coaching. The coaches for TCU should have been on Hoover on the final 1st half 2 minutes of the ASU game. "Hold On to the Ball " Protect the Ball" !!!!!!!!!. Same for at least BYU, Baylor and Houston KSU.

CSD calling out Josh Hoover and Briles is Bush League deluxe. Most of Hoover's TOs could have been corrected in short order by competent coaching.

CSD needs to know when to hold "em & know when to fold "em .CSD is jeopardizing progress with comments about a player that is gone. Not beneficial to the progress. Sick & Sad.

And what is CSD reward??? the contract extension with a buyout we know nothing about.
