46. Jaden Craig, TCU Horned Frogs

i

Spring ranking: 55th Total QBR: 59.6 | Pass Yds: 1,213 | Rush Yds: 88 | Total TDs: 7

In one of the nation's more pass-happy offenses, Craig is racking up the volume stats, but he was dreadfully inefficient in losses to North Carolina and UCF, averaging just 5.5 yards per dropback with no TDs, two picks and seven sacks. Sonny Dykes took a big risk handing his offense to Craig and coordinator Gordon Sammis, and it has not paid off thus far.

but better than OU's QB. The last sentence says it all, a big risk. But that is what coaches are supposed to do, however, with better assessment of talent..................

48. John Mateer, Oklahoma Sooners

i

Spring ranking: 19th Total QBR: 59.4 | Pass Yds: 883 | Rush Yds: 119 | Total TDs: 8

It's painful watching a QB lose the plot the way Mateer did in the second quarter against Georgia last Saturday. He threw an interception and had the ball just slip out of his hands on two occasions. One of the fumbles was returned for a TD as the Sooners were blown out 41-13. They're 113th in points per drive and 76th in offensive SP+, and Mateer might find himself benched soon without a Red River rally against Texas.

I saw Mateer in two games last year b4 his injury and he was being talked about as Heisman candidate.

From what I have read and seen about Craig and Mateer is they are in need of a big confidence boost.

From all the PSAs floating the airwaves targeting younger people, you'd think somebody would know if OU, TCU and others have sports shrinks on staff.

The QB Transfer Portal guys I talked about last December Colton Joseph Old Dominion--Wisconsin # 43.

Katin Houser E Carolina-- Illinois # 16 Colton Joseph led the comeback win over the Penn State last weekend. No small feat.

This O was never supposed to be pass happy.
Yes and obviously the reason for that was Sammis was retooling KB's offense to a pro attack with a dominant ground game because we had a good offensive line that Sonny claimed at the conclusion of fall camp was between 8-10 players deep and this was his best team since Max.

Currently, Sonny has a Support Staff/Assist. Coaches at 59 and this is all we can do on the field and after Spring Ball, Summer, and Fall Camp and 4 games into the season, "we're going to figure this out."

Coaching is still effective:

Positive stat No. 1: Hoover hasn't thrown an interception and he's got just 2 turnover-worthy plays

I'm not sure if you heard, but much was said about Hoover and his propensity to turn the ball over. Much was said by his former coach at TCU, Sonny Dykes, and then much was said by Curt Cignetti about IU's surroundings being the remedy to correct that from the Indiana Hoosiers.

You want to know what else is effective? Playing behind one the most experienced, highest paid OLs in the country and throwing to Charlie Becker and Nick Marsh, who most consider one of the best 1-2 WR tandems in the country. It also helps when 3 of the 4 games you played were against totally overmatched teams and the other one was Northwestern. All at home.

Hoover had great stats with us against the poorer teams we played. And very few turnovers.

He’s on a better team that’s going to be playing from ahead about about 90% of the time, the odds that he would reduce his turnovers was about 100%. To be clear, I don’t blame him for transferring one bit, but this narrative is a bit ridiculous.

I like Houser. He was great at ECU and started his career at Michigan State. Also, his NIL, $2MM, is on par with Jaden Craig.

I do not understand how you choose a FCS QB over a very productive FBS QB.
