1. Boise
2. Stanford
3. N Illinois
4.
4. TCU Horned Frogs

Average program recruiting rank: 58th
Three-year record as less talented team: 11-5 (.688)

TCU's first season in the Big 12 wasn't the smashing success Horned Frogs fans were hoping for, but a 4-5 record is solid considering the talent deficit. Only Iowa State boasted a weaker recruiting profile than TCU in the conference last season, according to our data, and a significant turnover deficit against the Cyclones was the primary factor in that loss. TCU lost turnover value in seven games last season and went on to win only two of those. Wins against talent-superior Texas and West Virginia teams were keyed by defensive efficiency, a hallmark of Gary Patterson teams in years past.

Another hallmark of Patterson is turning unheralded recruits into NFL-ready players. The Horned Frogs outpaced other Texas teams in terms of NFL draft picks on several occasions recently, despite never recruiting a top class. They'll need to replicate that kind of development going forward if they want to contend for a Big 12 title. TCU is currently ranked outside the top 40 of ESPN's Class Rankings, while conference foes Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Baylor are all ranked among the top 30.

Article still saying you have to be highly ranked to win. The Rose Bowl team may have won, with a really bad incoming recruiting record. Still a lot of doubters out there.

Yea, from a pure athletic ability standpoint we were at a deficit to UT and OU, just like everyone else however those believing there is a talent deficit versus BU tech or even K State just don't understand, not even a little bit.

That's based on the ESPN recruiting rating. So everybody will be behind Texas. Better chance of a 4* or 5* doing great, but everybody gets what they can. Still with 11 players on the field at any one time, football is definitely a team sport. With more wins (some B12 types are still downplaying 2012) the recruiting will come.

Main thing is, as GP says, it's who you miss on, it's who you sign who can't play college ball that really hurts you.
