ESPN: Shedeur Sanders not selected in first round of NFL draft

Shedeur Sanders is still on the board following the first round of the NFL draft.

The New York Giants passed on the former Colorado quarterback twice, including with the No. 3 pick Thursday night. The Cleveland Browns (at No. 5), Las Vegas Raiders (No. 6), New York Jets (No. 7), New Orleans Saints (No. 9) and Pittsburgh Steelers (No. 21) also said no thanks to Sanders, and that's six teams seemingly in need of a signal-caller.

How far will Sanders fall now?

The story is he was terrible in his pre-draft interviews with teams and was evaluated by some as not one of the top draft picks or QBs.

Shedeur Sanders Had 'Worst' Pre-NFL Draft Interview Ever

Opinions on Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders have been extremely mixed. But in recent days leading up to tomorrow's NFL Draft, some of the discourse around the son of Deion Sanders has been downright scathing.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero recently quoted a number of NFL executives from both the AFC and NFC. Just about all of them commented on Sanders' interviews being underwhelming, with one executive asserting that it was "the worst formal interview" that he had ever been a part of.

“He’s all ball. But the program’s just different,” an AFC GM said, via NFL.com. “Do you blame him? It’s his dad. It’s going to be different than any other circumstances because of his dad and who his dad is. But you’d like to think [things will be different] once he gets outside of that. I don’t think it’ll be a problem. The guy wants to be really good. Sometimes you don’t overthink it. It’s complicated just because of the circumstance. He hasn’t helped himself in some of the interviews.”

“One longtime NFL assistant coach said his time with Sanders was ‘the worst formal interview I’ve ever been in in my life. He’s so entitled. He takes unnecessary sacks. He never plays on time. He has horrible body language. He blames teammates. … But the biggest thing is, he’s not that good.’ Said one longtime AFC executive: ‘It didn’t go great in our interview. He wants to dictate what he’s going to do and what’s best for him. He makes you feel small.’

Not exactly sure what to think of him but I haven't been overly impressed. I think the bigger issue is that a franchise would have Deion trying to exert influence over everything they do and every decision they make, going to the media to express displeasure, etc.

If the Browns or Saints don’t draft him today, he could fall a lot father than just the first round.

I don’t any ill will on anybody, but at some point you have to grow up. But you can’t really blame it all on him. His dad has instilled that kind of self-centered arrogance on him his whole life. He needs to get farrrrr away from Deion’s influence

This. That he seems completely full of himself, and in a condescending way, does not help his cause either.

And not sure any QB who went 13-12 in his two years of FBS football has ever been celebrated as much as he has. I mean, he's a decent player, but his faults are obvious when you watch him play. About 75% of his highlight reels are plays/throws that absolutely won't work at the next level. He's going to have to speed up his game a TON. At UC, he either threw the ball right after he took the snap on a predetermined play or held on to the ball too long or retreated in the pocket....on about every single pass play that required a read after the snap. I think if you threw him into an NFL game right now the results would be awful.

I said or thought every one of these things while watching him play or give interviews the last two years. Doesn’t mean he doesn’t have potential. Hope this gives him a reason to work and improve and not a grievance to fall back on.

Was I supposed to type something here?
Oh, he has potential. It's just that said potential comes with a literal circus tent of idiocy and selfishness. Any city he winds up in will have the Sportswriters singing hosannahs because they no longer have to look for a story...

No Owner or GM wants that. No sane one, anyway...

"And the Dallas Cowboys, with their first pick in the second round..."

I don't think that is a concern for a team. They would basically tell Neon to turn it off. I think it is just the evaulation. Having known players who went through it and some guys who worked that process on the team side, my understanding is it is really really really in depth and revealing. Those guys are awesome at spotting problems.
So maybe his interviews were not as well rcved and maybe they looked at the performance he had a certain times. He is a good qb, but is he first round? maybe they don't see it that way. And lots a qbs would look world beater throwing to the likes of Travis Hunter .

I was shocked when people were saying he was first round. I'm thinking more like late round 2 at earliest.

Whoa!
Not sure exactly what is meant by that. Could be he wants to only play a certain style, or it could be prima mode stuff. Not good no matter what.

If a kid wants to show NFL GMs that he's serious about being the leader of a team and the face of the franchise, why in the hell would he wear a stupid gigantic necklace with the $ sign on it on draft night? I admit I am an old fashioned white guy but I don't get it. Just seems so dumb and makes him seem more about himself than anything, on a night when you think all he'd want to do is put his best possible foot forward. If I were a GM I'd just think, what a freaking idiot this kid must be. He was 13-12 in college. What was the best defense he faced?

I know, Deion did the same thing when he was drafted, but a CB is not a QB.
