ESPN reporting TCU has a new OC. UConn OC Gordon Sammis.

OK, but his talent level was at least somewhat commensurate with the teams UConn was playing against. It's not like this historically bad program was suddenly gifted with a bunch of P4 talent all over the field.
Right he did what he did to beat mediocre at best teams. Can he do it at the next level? I certainly hope so .

I was talking to another FBS offensive coach and mentioned my dismay with some guy who isn’t going to be at TCU next year. He mentioned that I was likely in the minority who wanted to see that OC gone. When I brought up the scandals and lack of consistency he started to understand why.

To be successful we need the OC to keep us on schedule and ahead of the sticks. Keep turnovers down and limit penalties. This offense has talent, and it just needs someone to put in a position to succeed.

I think this also means the former OC was gone regardless if he got a new offer.

UConn fan chiming in here:

First off, I’m thrilled for Sammis, I figured he was off to CSU, did not expect him to get this gig. Sammis has done wonders with the O Line: consistently good, always working as a unit, guy can coach up any OLinemen. Now that he has access to serious talent? The O Line is going to move people.

His run game is awesome, zone scheme & trying to find a gap to hit a house call. When it’s rolling, it’s damn near unstoppable. It’s sort of what we see with Shannahan in SF, get wide then find a crease & 88 out the gate. Sometimes I think Sammis went away from it too much, just constantly chews up yardage.

The Big 3 from UConn (QB, WR, RB) all put up career numbers under him. He does a good job of getting his playmakers the ball in space & let them make a play. Skyler Bell was getting catches every game, hate when OC just don’t get your top guys involved, Sammis does that.

The QB & WR both graduate, but RB edwards just hit the portal, curious if he’ll come with. I love Edwards, he’s so so good. Sammis isn’t perfect, he has some head scratching plays at certain times but he’ll have way more talent & should do well. Uconn could’ve kept him if they made him head coach but too big of a risk for that currently. On the rise tho, I’m Pulling for him.

Where did I say it wasn’t a good hire? All I said was based on UConn’s schedule you need to put all of the “stats” in perspective.
Alternatively, they put up those numbers with a bunch of players who weren’t heavily recruited. What I look for at a base level with an OC: does he help the players perform at a higher level than they would elsewhere? I think he meets that bar pretty easily.

Buddy of mine from the east coast said their offense was “legit as hell this year.”

Don’t know very much about them but they had an absolute beast of a wr amass tons of yards and tds.

Skylar Bell: 101 receptions, 1,276 yards, and 13 tds.
Do they still have our German quarterback on their roster as a receiver? And does he have any eligibility left?

Sammis bringing his RB with him??

I’m not sure if Cam is planning to go back to UConn (he’s from CT), go to CSU with Mora, or TCU with Sammis. But the kid is legit, he’ll be on an NFL roster I think. Not the fastest back ever, but he runs so dang hard, always falling forward. He’d be a nice get as part of the RB rotation if he follows Sammis. He won’t put up those types of numbers since he’d prolly split carries but he can definitely play.

Although he looks like a certain character from the sopranos…Big P, I trust a big man to cook and call plays. All kidding aside, I like that he comes from the offensive line and knows how to coach them up. Values balance, etc. hope he’s ready for the heat! Did he even visit the campus?
