The Big 12's most improved players of 2012

No shocker here...

Jason Verrett, CB, TCU: Verrett had a nightmare start to 2011, getting burned by Robert Griffin III in a painful loss in Waco to begin the season. This year, he was unquestionably the Big 12's best shutdown corner and arguably one of the best in the country. Ask any Big 12 receiver. He's fast, physical and his great hands helped him grab six interceptions (fifth-most nationally) and break up a ridiculous 16 passes. That's 22 pass defenses. No other Big 12 player had more than 15.

Devonte Fields has a shot at top 10 in a few years though.

Yes sir. No reason that Fields can't end up a Top 10 pick. Winning conference POY as a freshman set him up pretty well. Also, FWIW, I'm pretty sure Tommy Blake would have been drafted higher than Hughes if he'd gone to the draft after his junior year. IIRC he was projected to be in the Top 15. Junior year Tommy Blake was still the best DE I've seen at TCU. Hope he's doing ok.

Agreed. The best that never was.

Jason = winning

He keeps this up and he could be the highest drafted TCU player in a while.

And yet, after the 2011 Baylor game, the vast majority who weighed in on this board wanted Verrett kicked to the curb, never to don Horned Frog purple again. So much for the collective football wisdom of the Frog Fan Forum.

Ah, the fickle human heart... how quickly thou changest.

Wasn't Jason thinking that around that time?

Really happy for the season he had last year, and thankful there's still another one to come.

Jerry Huges was 31st overall in 2010. I Would be surprised if Verrett goes higher than that.

I wouldn't. He's a first team AA CB from the Big XII conference. He's got the cred all layed out now to have a head-turning year next year. The key is to pop as a JR and continue as a SR. It's the same thing Hughes did... only we're in a "better" conference now.

maybe not that ^^^ but give the board some credit. How else would you know where to eat tacos?
