Dykes on RB room

I know he has to say as much, but I feel like every spring/summer Dykes talks about how impressed he is with the backfield...then you know the rest of the story come fall. How much reason is there to believe we'll noticeably see a difference in the run game with talent in the RB room + Sammis?

This year feels a little different to me, and I believe there is good reason to have a little hope that TCU could be around 2k rushing in the regular season.
- Finally a big OL that is very close to 10 deep and averaging 320 lbs.
- A QB that doesn’t necessarily look to run, but also isn’t afraid to do so.
Hoover had 4 fumbles / lost 2, while Craig had -0-.
- A new balanced offensive zone run scheme and an OC that also used to be an OL coach. Very different from last year’s offensive approach.

- JEREMY PAYNE gained a lot of experience and grew in 2025.
In the last 4 games of 2025, which were against 3 ranked teams, Payne averaged 101 yards per game, 6.1 yards per carry, and -0- fumbles on 66 carries.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but great points all around.

Wish that Nate Palmer was still around to reap the benefits of what Sammis is projected to bring to the offense. I still wonder what happened to make him fall out of consideration as a rotational back when he had some great flashes imo.

Love Payne, but his fumble against ISU was huge. He came on strong at the end of the season, but that was a killer turnover for us in that game.

It was. However, two times in the redzone in the second quarter got us 3 whole points. That and letting a slow 3rd team walkon run a punt back 60-70 yds for a touchdown were even worse. Our defense played great that game. Our offense and special teams stunk.

Do we have a Pro Style O now?
A couple of FWST stories on the anticipated Sammis scheme:

March 26 -- https://www.star-telegram.com/sports/college/big-12/texas-christian-university/article315197123.html

Jan 7 -- https://www.star-telegram.com/sports/college/big-12/texas-christian-university/article315197123.html

As @82 Frog Fever pointed out, Sammis is a zone run guy and has specifically established the wide zone at his coaching stops. No more Briles veer-and-shoot.

Sounds like TCU will try to play very multiple, but we could see an emphasis on 12 personnel and more under center action. UConn was the definition of a balanced offense in 2024, but with the emergence of Fagnano last year, Sammis seemed to tailor his play sheet more toward maximixing that talent. And that's a great thing -- using personnel to guide the play sheet and not forcing a style with guys you don't have.

First half O-line play was just incredibly awful if I remember right. We couldn't run the ball against soft 3-3 fronts.

Thank you.
The good news is that while Fagnano is a likeable guy and fit in the Uconn offense, He probably was the worst thrower in the NFL combine over the last 15-20 years. If you watched then reply. The fact that Gordie was able to mask Fagnano's deficiencies says mega. This is not a pile on of Fagnano but more related to the talent around him. Cam Edwards RB & the WR who will sig contribute in the NFL Skyler Bell. I really believe Skyler Bell will be able to contribute more than Cole Beasly when he was with Dallas.

This all is good news for TCU as Sammis is able to "Mini-Max" or do more with less talent.
