For those that drove to the Fiesta Bowl, how bad was the drive? I figure at 28 MPG it would cost about $300.00 in fuel to drive. Much cheaper than one ticket (group of 4 or 5) on an airline.

Did it for the Fiesta bowl and will never do it again. Trip back and forth was a total beating. Probably didn't help that the Frogs played like cr@p and lost to Boise.
Even though you can drive 100 MPH once you get past Pecos, the trip seems to last forever. The only highlight of the trip was our interim stop in El Paso to see OU and Stanford play in the Sun Bowl. Had great tickets from EBAY 3 rows behind the OU Chancellor.
We are flying this year.

We did what PCF did. Spent the night in Las Cruces. Leisurely two day drive.

Might as well have some fun and drive 300 miles further to Vegas too! Bet on the game and use the money to gamble in Vegas! Win Win situation! :tongue:

In-laws live in Lamesa which would make a pretty good launching location...except the fact that it's Lamesa.

Being a native West Texan the drive will be no big deal. It will be 10 hours from my house. We drove to the Fiesta Bowl and it wasn't bad at all. You can drive fast, and if you love mountain views like I do, it is scenic. If you break it up and stay in El Paso, don't worry about the proximity to Juarez because El Paso is the 2nd safest big city in America in the number of murders per capita population.

Drove from FW to El Paso for the first leg, then to Phoenix the next day. We had 7 guys in the suburban so has wasn't too bad. I think we filled up 5 times? On the way back we stayed in Midland. Also we got a ticket in New Mexico

Drove overnight from Fort Worth straight through. Made the stretch to El Paso seem much faster. We had three drivers which was good. Just two and it would've been brutal. The kicker is, we packed a grill and complete tailgating setup. Wasn't fancy but had a blast cooking burgers and drinking beer all day. Didn't hit La Posta till the way back but damn it was good. I would do it again but I like hitting the road every now and then...

Drove to both Fiesta Bowl and Rose Bowl. Two drivers. Left DFW for Scottsdale about 5 p.m. with the intention of driving straight through. Didn't make. We ended up sleeping for a couple of hours at a rest stop in Deming, New Mexico. Better luck for Rose Bowl. Left DFW about 9 a.m. made it to our hotel in Lordsburg, New Mexico, in about 12 hours including a leisurely dinner in El Paso.
I'd recommend driving to Lordsburg. You're less than four hours from Phoenix so you'd get there well rested early on the second day.

We did it from ft worth for the fiesta bowl, and wasn't bad. Left 10pm and drove through the night. Missed all traffic. We had a beast driver who did most of it by himself. We took 4 wheel drive p/u @ 19 Ish mpg and still saved a fortune. The drive would definitely not keep me from going!

Total beat down just getting out of Texas.You do not realize just how big this state is until you drive to El Paso from D/FW(or Houston in my case several years ago.)
