Does Dallas have the worst GMs/owners in the country?

Second worst trade in NBA history. The Pacers originally had the #2 pick in the 84 draft and traded it to Portland. Which they used to draft Sam Bowie. And then the Bulls drafted Jordan with the #3 pick.

The Mavs tried to trade up to get Jordan but Chicago ended up keeping the pick. The Mavs ended up drafting Sam Perkins at #4.

I always liked sleepy Sam, but Dallas left Charles Barkley on the table with that Perkins selection in 1984. In 1985 they selected Detlef Schrempf and Bill Wennington. They left Charles Oakley, Karl Malone, Joe Dumars, AC Green and Terry Porter on the board.

How about an Oakley, Malone, and Barkley front-court? I loved the Mavs back then but what a brutal draft. Apologies for the derail.

It's all good bro. I like looking back at what could have been. I was shocked when I found out that the Mavs tried to get the 3rd pick. Can you imagine if Jordan had been a Maverick!! That would have been amazing.

Another note about the 84 draft is that Houston had considered trading Ralph Sampson for the #2 pick and Clyde Drexler (who ending up playing for the Rockets later in his career). So Houston would have had Olajuwon, Drexler and probably Jordan. That would have been an amazing team.

One nice thing about the AAC was being on the train line. You could take the train from Fort Worth or Dart from Dallas and not have to worry about parking. I don't think the new location has that luxury.

There's not a direct train over there. You can take a train and then a bus.

I’m sure they got the dirt (relatively) cheap because malls, but still seems like a weird location. When I first heard “north” I was assuming Frisco.

Thinking both locations will be traffic nightmares.
Agree- it’s just that Frisco seems to be the new shiny toy for Dallas, with the Cowboys being there along with the soccer field. I only ever ventured over there because my orthopedic surgeon offices there(affiliated with Stars and Rangers). Such a beating going through Dallas and up that I found it much nicer to go (from SWFW) up 35 to Denton and back down.

I think the news of both teams looking to move north, especially to Plano, is good evidence of why municipalities/counties should not go so far down the road of tax breaks or funding for a team's venue.

The Willow Bend mall location is not that big of a property.
They already have the restaurant venues that take up some space. And they are still pushing the mixed used idea there. So how much space can they really have for an arena? And what about parking?

Limited parking means more expensive parking. They probably love they way that sounds.

Frisco is getting completely overrun with people moving from India. There are some schools in that ISD that are 90%+ Indian. Prosper and Celina are next, you wouldn't believe how much commercial land Indians own up there.
