Dobbs Decision Discussion (Roe)

Pssssst. Congress has no authority to act. That’s why they haven’t. You have to amend the constitution to create new constitutional rights. They know this, they just don’t keep their sheep informed. How many times has one party held the house, senate, and presidency, but not passed crazy agenda items? Even lib Ginsberg recognized that Roe was [ Finebaum ] precedent.

Not anything to do with Roe and no idea about the details of the case, but the just decided animal cruelty case has one of the more unusual majorities in a 5-4 case:

Barrett
Gorsuch
Kagan
Sotomayor
Thomas

The only way it could possibly be more odd is to substitute Alito for Barrett (or maybe Gorsuch) and Jackson for Kagan. But you are right, that's an odd majority.

The Prince case also interesting in that only Kagan and Roberts were in the minority (court ruled that original photographer of a famous Prince photograph that Warhol made changes to is entitled to payment).

That can't be. I read that all the conservative appointed justices are evil and are a threat to democracy! There is no way they would ever agree with the other side!

My 18 year old son got his 17 year old girlfriend pregnant. I’m glad abortion is no longer legal in Texas and that my granddaughter is safe from that horrible fate.
Seeing my sister-in-law get pregnant before her 17th birthday and helping raise four of her daughters (two of which we fostered for over 2 years) I applaud your perspective on this issue.

I really like the current Supreme Court. Seem fairly independent minded to me.
They generally do a good job except when it comes to certain issues where I think it's pretty obvious they have a desired outcome in mind, and then their worldview gets in the way and they ignore whatever parts of the constitution or precedent they need to in order to get to that outcome.

The only reason I didn’t have a kid when I was 17 was luck.

I’m going to be the best Grandpa I can be and we’re going to help my son and his girlfriend be the best parents possible.
