DMN: Purple and black is back? That's something Gary Patterson's players will 'earn' as they protect

FORT WORTH -- Each time TCU coach Gary Patterson takes the podium in the Four Sevens team meeting room at Amon G. Carter Stadium, the pyramid of goals perched on the wall to his left is difficult to overlook.
Its structure, including the goal of a national title at the pinnacle, remains constant. But each season, a new motto in bold lettering sits high above all of that.
The Horned Frogs' latest mantra: "Earn the chip." And that's not to be confused with any "chip on the shoulder" TCU may have as the smallest school in the Big 12, Patterson clarified Thursday on the first day of fall practices.
