DMN: Mustangs capitalize on sluggish first half by Horned Frogs

FORT WORTH -- It's been a long time since SMU got to celebrate with the Iron Skillet in its hands. Eight years to be exact. And after Saturday's 41-38 win over TCU, the Internet was flooded with photos of SMU players and coaches toting the treasured item that has been so far from their grasp for so long.
Even head coach Sonny Dykes was pictured by SMU's in-house cameras dancing with the skillet in the Mustangs' locker room. He sang the fight song holding it proudly above his head.
Before the game, Dykes downplayed the significance, saying the main goal this year would be to win the American Athletic Conference. After the game, he told reporters it was a good win but didn't get into the historical nature of what it meant for his program.
