DMN: 'It was a hell of a throw': Sonny Dykes responds to no-call after TCU defender tossed an SMU player's helmet
By Sam Blum
FORT WORTH - Sonny Dykes was fuming after a Shane Buechele interception in the second quarter. The Mustangs had just recovered their third turnover of the game.
But after Buechele's interception in the endzone two plays later, head coach Dykes was extremely angry at the referees and not his quarterback. He needed to be restrained by assistant coaches. It wasn't the play he appeared to be mad about. It was likely because one of his players' helmets appeared be thrown down the field by a TCU defender after the helmet came off.
"I saw the helmet flying through the air, and nobody else saw it," said a much more calm Dykes after a 41-38 SMU win over No. 25 TCU. "I was a little upset about that, but hey it is what it is."
