To say that Frisco Centennial cornerback Cydney Calvin wasn’t on the recruiting radar at the start of the 2012 season would be an understatement.

Not only did Calvin not have a single offer at the start of the season, he didn’t even break into the starting line-up for Centennial’s defense until midway through the regular season.

But Tuesday, what seemed inconceivable at the start of the year came true; Calvin (6-1, 175) gave an oral commitment to TCU. ...

This means that Calvin is a long, long way from his potential. Goes from nothing to 3-star in less that one full season says to me there is a ton of untapped potential there. Welcome Calvin.

Either that, or our recruiting has gotten so bad we are taking kids who didn't even make their HS team.

I am surprised at how many kids we are losing recruiting war after Rose Bowl, #1 Defense in Nation, 10 years of consistent Top 25, top notch facilities including new stadium and indoor, and amazing track record of developing talent. Can't understand how anyone could choose Utah, Baylor, or Tech over TCU. Goo is sad we don't have a 4-star DT on the books.

I remember when people didn't think anything of Derrick Kindred last year. Our D turned it around when he started playing. It's not about the kids you don't get in recruiting. Most schools lose more battles then they win. It is what you do with the ones you get that matter.

TCU has been great at turning 2-star recruits like Kindred into studs (Ed Wesley, Foltz, Ross Evans, Tausch).....but

we've been even better with 4-star recruits (Devonte Fields, Chuck Hunter, Griffen Gilbert, Waymon James)

Somebody can run the numbers, but it appears our percent success rate with 4-star is much higher than 2-star.

Oddly, Skye Dawson was a no-star.

“I’ve decided to make my decision and next year I’m going to be a HornFrog!” Calvin tweeted.
Hope he's not a grade issue. (I kid, I kid.)

Sounds like another potential great GP find. Welcome to TCU and congrats on becoming a Horned Frog Calvin.

GP and the staff can use this kid in whatever way possible. It seems like he can play multiple positions. We will find that untapped potential.

.

Look at who TCU was beating out years before and for a little while after the Rose bowl. It was when TCU joined the Big 12 that recruiting started to go back towards the SWC days. You can graph it and it does not take a rocket scientist to see the timeline. DT's and athletes especially.
