Direhards: Big 12 looking to burnish its national image during NCAA tourney

It’s the time of year when a bracket can be turned to dust after the first two days.
They don’t call this time “March Madness” for no reason.
The Big 12 likely will give reasoning to that term during the next several weeks.
The conference enters the tournament as the highest ranking conference nationally in terms of power rankings. It had a collectively marvelous December where it conquered most of the out-of-conference games and won a few holiday championships to go along with it.
It led to five Big 12 teams earning a ranking in The Associated Press’ top 10 teams over the course of the season. Kansas and West Virginia both soared as high as No. 2. Oklahoma was fourth. Texas Tech was sixth and TCU was 10th. It was the highest rankings ever for TCU and Texas Tech. It was West Virginia’s highest in 58 seasons.
