Tommy Birch, The Des Moines Register
AMES, Ia. — When Jaire Grayer stepped onto the floor for Texas Christian’s shootaround Tuesday morning, he started scanning the rafters at Hilton Coliseum. It didn’t take him long to find what he was looking for: A cardinal and gold banner with the number 44 and the last name Grayer, honoring his father Jeff whose number was retired by the Cyclones.
“Going and seeing my dad’s name and number up in the rafters and being able to play this game is just unbelievable,” Jaire Grayer said.
Jaire Grayer got to briefly follow in his father’s footsteps Tuesday. He took the Hilton Coliseum floor for the first time in his college career, scoring 11 points and grabbing three rebounds in TCU’s 65-59 loss to Iowa State.
“It was a fun night,” Jaire Grayer said.
