Jamel Johnson over Cam Smith is a small surprise to me. Brooks to 4th string. Terrence Cooks not on the depth chart. Offense is pretty straight forward, though it is interesting that Wright is ahead of McAlister (though I think both will play a ton)

Always remember.... These coaches placed Chandler Morris as starter ahead of M. Duggan. They can make some mistakes that's OK.

Let's start with what I would describes as non-P5 starters under old alignment. I appreciate what Namdi Obiazor & Hodges have done for the university in 22 and 23 but I saw them "Whiff" on too many head on tackles in both years. Too many means DOZENS amongst both. Too much of Hodges Lacrosse skills and too much of safety Obiazor's skills have translated to the football field. Don't forget it was Gillespie who transitioned Obiazor to LB from S.

I am ashamed to admit how much time I have watched Kaleb Ealrms-Orr's video from Cal. He is a flat-out headhunter and understands and respects the line of scrimmage. Shad Banks definitely misses tackles, but he does not avoid contact. Banks is more athletic than Hodges AND Obiazor and deserves the start for Stanford.

The non-Power five (under old P5) standards for pass catchers. While I liked his Father Bucky Richardson and I'm sure Dykes and Holgerson do too, JP Richardson is OK but here is an alternative who needs more time and that is Blake Knowell. Blake is Faster, stronger, and has better hands. Unless injury occurs to JP, Blake is sitting on the bench to sunset through Nov./Dec. What a shame.

The most athletic Tight End of the group is D.J. Rogers, Why the coaching staff has not thrust him forward is flabbergasting. He caught some great throws from Josh last year. Coaching staff please learn to discern between game time and practice time.

And lastly Defensive line. Caleb Fox is not a starter for at least 70-80 teams. He has done OK but just OK. Please apply the90/10 rule and give playing time to Huddleston/Tristan Johnson/Z, Chapman, YES 90 % to the young guns. for the first 2-3 games.

The two biggest surprises are Wright ahead of McAlister and hodges ahead of Kaleb Ealrms-Orr. Really think both of those are going to be big time impact players when they get a chance.

Wright hasn’t done anything in his entire career so very concerned he is starting. Kaleb is more athletic than Hodges.

Thought Johnson over Smith at BS was the biggest surprise. Wright & Hodges have been really solid.

Brockermeyer finalist for starting center. He was the 5 star Fort Worth kid who originally went to Alabama. Guess he's doing well for us. He was the #1 center in the nation out of high school.

Cooper Powers, the kid from De La Salle is #3 at center. He's just a freshman though.

Our defense looks rock solid.

Really disappointing to see Oyewale seeming more hurt than initially thought.

I feel better about every position after looking at this depth chart except for OL. Not a fan that two starting positions there have “OR” after the starters. Not a great sign.

Wright over McAlister is a big surprise. However, it’s been said that when he’s healthy and has his mind right, he plays at an insane level. So I hope this is a sign that he’s finally touching on his potential. But we are insanely loaded at WR.

Feel bad for Trent Battle. Great kid but the talent at RB is just really really good. Johnson could end up being a hidden gem for redzone/short yard purposes. Also wouldn’t be surprised to see the freshman play. Payne is incredibly shifty.

DL depth has come a really long way and I think has been the surprise this fall. We’ve got size and versatility across the board there.

After everything we’ve heard about Cam Smith over spring and fall, Johnson is definitely a surprise as the starter. But I also think that says a lot about Johnson. Who is only a sophomore.

We have a lot more seniors starting than I had thought we had.

A guy that has 20 career receptions is better than JP Richardson….a consistent multi-year starter that has had over 40 receptions in each of the last two seasons alone?? And that was at two different universities so you have two different coaching staffs and schemes thinking he has talent and he went out and proved he has the ability. He was one reception off from being our leading reviver last year and about 40 yards away from being the leading yardage receiver if the stats I saw are correct.

Hell, I’d personally say he may arguably be our most clutch receiver and you wanna bench him for a guy that has never consistently seen the field over four years….never consistently seen the field with the type of wide receiver rotation and turnover we have??

What on earth?? I’m not gonna respond to much else on your list but that point is ridiculous.

Supporting cast is there for a QB if we stay healthy. The big question is do we have a QB that can be top 3 in the Big12 to make this a fun year?
