Committed to TAMU and said:
"Me and Coach Wallerstedt just bonded," Claiborne said. "We have a bond like me and my head high school coach have a bond. I need that connection away from home too and he just filled that spot."
Now Wallerstedt has left for Tech and the TAMU has 7 LBer commits. TCU had been pushing hard on him prior to the change in coaches and now he looks like he is more receptive after just a few days ago saying he was solid to the Ags and now is visiting FW this weekend.
Darian Claiborne LB 6-1/220/4.5 Port Allen, LA offered
ESPN analysis:
Claiborne is a very active and productive run stopper; has not only the ability to cover ground but when he tracks down ball carriers we see a strong, knock'em back tackler capable of punishing runners. Has the size and athleticism for the inside linebacker position at the major level of competition and it appears his frame is capable of supporting additional body mass over time. His agility and balance coupled with his tackling skill suggests very good potential as a special team's coverage defender. This prospect is effective as a shotgun/spread quarterback; runs the option efficiently demonstrating strong over the pads running toughness; displays better than average arm strength and accuracy however all aspects of setup and delivery technique would need to be addressed were he to settle in that position. This is an athletic player who shows good initial quickness along with the key and diagnosis skills need to get off the mark and play aggressive downhill vs. the inside run; fills open gaps while demonstrating the playing strength needed to take and defeat blockers at the point of attack. Along with his ability to stack the inside run, we like his lateral playing speed; demonstrates the ability to move through traffic, turn and change direction with very good sideline to sideline range. Can apply pressure up the middle as a pass rusher; although more experience is needed defending the pass, his athleticism suggests potential as a zone coverage defender. This guy plays with the instincts and nose for the football which can be very disruptive to an opponent's offense. Claiborne does not appear to be an immediate starter at the BCS level of play however early situational playing time isn't out of the question if a red shirt year is not deemed necessary.
