In a sport where height has always been an advantage, TCU women’s basketball is redefining what it means to dominate the paint. With four players standing 6’7″ or taller, the Horned Frogs have assembled a frontcourt that’s remarkably tall for women’s college basketball, making opponents and analysts take notice.

The women’s basketball community is buzzing about TCU’s towering lineup, which features international talent, proven production, and unprecedented height. Head coach Mark Campbell, fresh off a contract extension through 2030, has orchestrated what many are calling a potential game-changer for both the program and the sport itself.

Great to have all the bigs on the roster, but it has me curious about how they'll be used.

If I already had two 6-7+ freshmen signed, I'm not sure I'd be looking for more in the portal unless the signees needed significant development. I wouldn't prioritize bigs over a sharpshooter to replace Conner.

The best 3-point specialists ought to be banging on TCU's door, given HCMC's system that turned Conner into a star and WNBA draftee, and defenses needing to collapse on Miles. But of those in the portal, Howell and Garzon signed elsewhere, and Kneepkens doesn't have TCU on her list.

So HCMC signs two transfer centers, each of which averaged fewer than 6 ppg. These aren't Sedona 2.0 -- one started on a 3-15 Big 12 team; the other was bench relief for the SEC defensive player of the year. They can board and block shots, but they aren't dominant scorers or bangers.

So why sign them? I think three reasons:
1. TCU shot most of its NIL budget on Miles (justifiably).
2. Frogs have depth at other positions, with several taller guard/forward types.
3. HCMC wants to run; that takes depth and bigs who can get downcourt to finish or clean up the break. Silva and Basham look built to do that, especially if they share minutes.

This will be a fun team to watch next year.

Meanwhile, what to do about 3-point shooting? Not sure, but Roberson has by far the best percentage from 3 on the roster (.483). She doesn't have the quick trigger, so she wouldn't generate volume off of screens and step-backs like Conner. But she can spot up. And HCMC may not be done yet.

Neither of the incoming freshmen bigs are college ready. I doubt that either will play meaningful minutes next year. They are long term projects for coach Campbell. Of the two, the Australian is more advanced with a better skill set. It means that there aren't four bigs in the rotation, just two.

Maybe MC believes that Scherr has developed better touch from behind the line since she’s been at TCU than her career 32% mark shows. I think w Miles and the bigs on the floor, the other wing guards will have more open space to roam and snipe. So is Dono going to become that 3 and D type player and less PG work? Or does that slide over to Scherr and we keep Dono at the point next season?

Helpful, thanks. Often the simplest explanation is the best.

Do you hear anything about the development/readiness of the German, Bielefeld?

At least one of the freshmen will probably redshirt
With today's NIL and transfer portal climates, if I were the coach, I would never redshirt another player ever again. I would go on the assumption that you have them for 1-2 years tops, so you have to make hay while the sun shines. Probably not what is best for the program or the player, but you go to so much trouble to recruit them and have them learn the system and then they up and go somewhere else? I would assume that someone is paying NIL money for that red shirt year. Might as well use them before they bail on you.

Of the three recruits, Bielefeld is far-and-away the best of the three and the most ready to play at the college level. She was the MVP of Germany's U18 Fiba team. She has legit skills as a playmaker, shooter and rebounder. Good size for a guard position. Very fast. I see her breaking into the game rotation very early in her career.
