COVID-19 Threads

Here is some state by state data (all ages) from June 2020-2021

Drug overdoses are up everywhere (20.1% across US). Top 10 are Vermont, Kansas, Alaska, California, Mississippi, Oregon, New Mexico, Louisiana, Kentucky, Tennessee

Five states actually had decreases South Dakota (largest year over year decrease), New Hampshire, Hawaii, Delaware, New Jersey.

Hard to make a case that there is any correlation between pandemic response and overdose deaths looking at state by state data.

But allows CMS mandate for health care workers to stay (5-4). Roberts and Kavanaugh on both majorities.

So I guess Healthcare Workers don’t have the same Constitutional Rights as everyone else?

Sad

At least I was forced by my employer to get a vaccine that I didn’t want, my Doctor didn’t recommend, and it made me run a fever and feel like crap for several days.

It seems like for Kavanaugh and Roberts it was more of a question about whether Congress granted authority to CMS or OSHA to come up with the mandate than a question of constitutional rights.

if you want to make this big of a regulation/change/overreach then a president should have to take it through the house and senate, through representation of the people. giving a president this type of power is dangerous and isn’t the way our government is setup.

we need to get away from all of this executive order stuff. i don’t know who started it or who has abused it more but modern day presidents love it.

Seems like that is what the court is saying here- Congress created the scope of both CMS and OSHA; the court determined that within its scope CMS was granted the ability to require vaccination but not OSHA, I guess?

pretty much how I figured it would come down. the mandate that remained is because those facilities make use of federal funds to a certain level. FQHCs are an obvious example. If you are familiar with the act that enables OSHA, then you are aware that they never had any such authority.
Biden and his dem pals knew that.

Here's the thing: Now businesses and others will wake up to the fact that, because there are other areas where OSHA is wrongfully enforcing regs, they can take it to this court.

This day has pretty much been a kick in the nads for the Biden folks.

Yeah I kinda like this court and their decisions over all. I think they are doing a good job.

Trying to take a trip out of the country (Caribbean) and it's the least excited we've ever been for a trip. Need each of the four of us to get negative tests within 72 hours of arrival on the island and need to submit proof 24 hours before arrival. Testing and results timeframes are painful, and knowing which types of tests are acceptable, etc., is difficult.

Then we'll need negative tests to leave or risk quarantine there. We're ready to tap out and travel domestically...

Oh, and in on 2,000.
Got our four negative tests and even though they didn't comply with the listed requirements (for type of test) we are approved to travel. Now we turn our hopes to healthy flight crews...
