Yes, I believe the weather is a factor

Well if weather is a factor, what about Air Force, Utah, and BYU? Wyoming I can understand.

Probably weather along with economics of fielding a team. I think economics is why SMU doesn't field a team. I wonder if TCU will ever have softball for the girls?

Teams are less likely to field a baseball team if they are located in a cold weather climate. It's not impossible to field a team if you're located in cold weather, but less schools up there do it. You can't practice year round like you can in the south, so you're at a competitive disadvantage. Some teams up north can't even play home games for the first month or so of the season.

Speaking of softball for the girls, another reason CSU, Wyoming, and SMU don't field baseball teams is due to title IX restrictions. The would need to add more scholarship sports for women as well.

He said 'a factor', not 'the determinant.'

I think the NCAA changed the rules a few years ago to have the teams start later in the year and limit the number of games to help the teams from the north have less of a disadvantage. Although the schools from the south or the west coast are the ranked more than the teams from the north occasionally they break through and win.

Speaking of rule changes in college baseball it's interesting that we don't see the number of transfers anymore like we used to when a player could transfer and play the next year.

This is the biggest factor right here.

SMU dropped baseball long before Title IX ever came along. Now, SMU dropped a nationally ranked men's track program due to title IX.

Speaking of title ix imo it's interesting some of TCU's women's sports the Frogs include top national teams in equistrian and rifle. I guess it fits with TCU's heritage back to Cowtown and the wild west. I guess back in the day Annie Oakly would have made a good Frog!

The state of Wyoming does not play high school baseball. They do play summer league, however, but the level of competition to place likes Texas or California is not even close. In Jackson, there is still snow in the valley until mid April - a rainy month - and there is snow on the mountains sometimes until May. The peaks can be snow-tipped until the middle of the summer.

Don't care. They should play BB. Should be a requirement to be in MWC. Sorry but other northern tier schools play BB. Top notch conference includes BB. Especially one looking for inclusion. (I know 2 Big 12 schools don't play but don't care). AFA does.

I agree with you on this policy in the future. However, bashing Wyoming or CSU because they do not play baseball is weak. We didn't think it was a problem when we accepted the invite and joined the MWC. I don't understand why it is a problem now.

Again, you are right about future invites and baseball. It is why I favor Fresno or UH over Boise. No baseball, no go.

Every conference in this country except for 2 is set up bc of football. Baseball is an afterthought.

Just think how great a blue baseball field would look!

I still imagine the all female rifle team in the Fiesta Bowl Drill Team outfits shooting the living hell out of everything. Mini skirts, boots and a rifle. Hot!

Why do we want another baseball team in our conference? If Wyoming or CSU (or Boise) started one up, they would be terrible for the first few years and wouldn't be real likely to improve substantially. And we would have to play them at least one series a year, which would hurt our RPI. I'd rather have fewer conference opponents and have more time to schedule series against quality non-conf. opponents. Making baseball (or any non-revenue sport) a criterion for conference membership is ridiculous.
