Yeah, so those negate each other. He still did well. We’ll see what happens in West Virginia. Also, Morris excelled at North Texas and Virginia. UVA had their most wins since 1908 with him at QB.

Don't act like everyone was sad and pissed that Morris wasn't on the roster.
He needed a chance somewhere and took advantage of the opportunity.

Who's acting sad? He didn't do well here. But looking at what he did elsewhere suggests we didn't develop him well. That's my point.
I think that's a pretty ridiculous point. He never stayed healthy here. Plus, the kid was 24 years old last year (turned 25 in December). And even then, his stats were pretty ordinary. Yeah, Virginia won 11 games last year, and their schedule was about as easy as it can get for a P4 team.
Meanwhile, the current coach recruited Josh Hoover who was rated the 42nd best QB in his high school class and he turned into a guy who most think is one of the Top 10-20 QBs in the country, and I'm probably shooting low there.
I know, I'm the guy that always seems to defend Dykes and the staff, but the lengths people go to discredit him, I don't understand. A huge myth is that we've had really talented teams in the past few years and they are just being poorly coached or not developed properly. Nobody who studies college football and is objective about it claims these rosters are really anything special.

I respectfully disagree with you. UVA was 3-7, 3-9 and 5-7 in the three years before Morris got there, with the same easy schedule, and then boom, Morris takes them to 11-3 and the ACC championship. Same coach the whole time.
You're right about Morris never being healthy, but other than that Baylor game, he never looked comfortable at TCU. Maybe that's because of his age, but we've seen freshmen do better than he did.
And I'm not trying to discredit Dykes. I think he takes too much crap from everybody. But something was wrong the past couple of years, and QB play was part of it.
The main thing wrong with the past couple of years is we didn't have much talent on either the offensive or defensive lines. It's a common problem among teams that don't spend a ton of money because those that do know that's the core of really good football teams. Hoover wasn't perfect but generally he was a good, productive QB. That's why he was in demand like he was. How many really good teams wanted our linemen?
Again, Morris was 24 years old last year. When he was 23 he won six games for University of North Texas and his freshman successor won 12 last year. Same coach. Indicting the staff for not developing Morris is pretty ridiculous.

Agreed, but I don't think Dykes does too much these days in the weeds. Head coach now dictates more GM these days, so I give him credit for making serious changes at coordinator positions. Hopefully the running game ball control also allows the defensive side to mix things up more on 3rd down. The sit back 12 yards on third and 11 has got to go.

Yes, along with the telling quote that Coach SD was watching/studying Sammis O film 2 years ago. I think Sonny knew the current set-up wouldn’t produce what was expected. Now with ken & Hoover gone, progress can be made. Before, it was just wishing & hoping for luck. Change had to be made.
Yeah, thankfully Hoover is gone, glad we could get the reigning National Champion and COY to take him off our hands so we can move on and make some progress.

It will be interesting to see how Indiana does coming off the NC year and how Hoover does. He can definitely both light it up and scheiss it up all in the same game.
Yes, it will be interesting. I don't expect him to win the Heisman or anything but I suspect he'll do well. He is a pretty good QB. The front half of IU's schedule is embarrassingly easy so 6-0 and a lot of hype is almost a certainty. We'll see, but he's going to have plenty of time to adjust to the new surroundings and the pressure.
