Applewhite already coached at Rice once and was out the door so fast it wasn't even funny! He is prob going to be the next coach in waiting at UT and then eventually take over for Mack. Applewhite won't be able to turn around UT after Mack finishes running the program into the ground. He'll get a 2-3 season and then get replaced with Chis Simms. Ha ha.

You may be right, but your assertions defy widespread rumors regarding Applewhite's supposed major interest in he Rice HC job.

Brown mentioned unconditional release. Regardless I don see any of them interested here. Oversteer and Daje would have to switch positions. MB is intriguing but i think he wants a diff conference via aggy.

Isn't it MB the DT and not MB the RB? Read that somewhere.

There should be plenty of options for Briles. And does he really think he is going to have a better season or not next year, may play a big roll in whether taking one of the many options out there. He's had 3 consecutive Bowl seasons for a school that couldn't get 1 in recent memory.

I was mostly commenting to take a pop shot at Applewhite. Im sure no one at Texas has ever wanted to replace Applewhite with Chris Simms..... "Ever" might be too strong of a word come to think of it.

Briles isn't going anywhere. At Baylor, he has everything he needs to win and about 10% of the headaches he would at a school like Arky.

Plus, the guy has essentially never left the state of Texas and with the exception of Houston every coaching job he's had (high school and college) has been a few hours drive from his hometown. He's a Texas guy and I just don't see him wanting to leave the state.

Houston and Fayetteville are both 7 hrs from his hometown, if that's the rule (rock me).

I think you may be from the midwest based on what I've gathered (correct me if I'm wrong), but to some native Texans living in Texas is a big deal. Maybe not enough to keep some from taking employment in another state, but a big deal to many.

Yes I am but I've also been here longer (going on 30 years). So I'm kinda familiar with how things roll around here. There's also a significant portion who doesn't like to admit Houston is part of Texas, either. I'm not saying he's definitely going or not, but given his obvious wanderlust, even if he's managed to stay inside the state line (so far), I'm not convinced lines on a map are a deterrent. If he stays at Baylor, I think it'll have more to do with the obvious pitfalls of the UArk job than geography.


But I live in Arlington, and rather enjoy it, so what do I know.

Heard it more times than I care to count (including on these very pages). I would chalk it up to regional rivalry (in the same vein as Dallas vs FW), but I have no reason to make it up.

Disagree with you the Houston deal. Houstonians are proud to be Texans. Dallas is the one where I have found that some Dallasites would rather not be considered Texans.

In El Paso, there is a percentage of the population that feels more. New Mexican than Texan. I bet J Sauce can confirm that.
