CNHI: At TCU, early signs of vintage defense

By Eric Prisbell | CNHI Sports

FORT WORTH — As most Big 12 quarterbacks continue to amass gaudy offensive numbers in non-conference play, one of the defenses that could potentially slow them is gathering momentum.

It is too early to assess exactly how good TCU’s unit is this season, but there are early signs that the defense could be one of head coach Gary Patterson’s better units in a 17-year tenure that has seen him construct several stingy defenses.

When asked if it’s even possible to slow Big 12 offenses down with stout defense, TCU’s All-Big 12 linebacker Travin Howard said, “It’s possible. The Big 12 is more Air Raid and scores more points. But anything is possible. If we keep working the way we do, we have a shot at that.”
