Chris Petersen Should be TCU’s Top Choice for HC

Can’t remember who requested a separate thread specifically for Chris Petersen but here you go.

Chris Petersen should be the clear #1 choice on JD’s list. He is the first phone call that should be made. We’re all very familiar with what he did at Boise and Washington. 3 NY6 bowls in just 5yrs at Washington is impressive. I know he quit in order to spend more time with family which I respect but you still have to try and reach out to him.

Offer him $9M-$10M per year for a 5yr contract. Who knows he might take it. It would be by far the best situation of his coaching career imo. Great metro area, Texas recruiting, big donor support, winnable P5 conference, history of great football.

Others have said he really likes Fort Worth and Gary has said that he was the best coach he faced. I think Chris Petersen replacing Gary could potentially help mend the bridge between TCU and Gary.

What are the chances he could convince Kellen Moore to slide over from the Cowboys and run TCU's offense while learning the ropes of the top job from his former coach? Seems a stretch, and I've always been skeptical of the 'head coach in waiting' thing, but maybe this is a situation where it could actually work--given their history, their relative ages, etc.

Move from OC of the Dallas Cowboys to OC of the TCU Horned Frogs? Like, on purpose?

Obviously it would be an ostensible downgrade, not even a lateral move, in every way. I meant if there was some explicit agreement in place like a) you'll be "assistant head coach" and b) after three years Peterson will step down and you'll be HC.

First, he is the coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys, Second he is getting paid almost $2MM a year now, Third, odds are he will be a HC in the NFL next year.

Why wouldn’t he just take a HC job now? He’s more in demand than Petersen.

I guess that's far more likely. Do you think he'd be ready for a HC job as big as TCU? I know we're not exactly the Florida Gators, but it's still big enough that you're jumping in at the deep end. Is he more likely to stay in the NFL?

I'd rather have a younger guy in the job, but I also want to be certain of success. I guess you can't really have your cake and eat it in that regard; if we want youth we're going to have to take a risk.

9-10 million that is insane to offer him that. If the school wants to pay that much to the coach they could go after bigger fish then that. Coach O was making 9M this year and Saben made 9.7M do you realize that. Those 2 coaches have won national championships. If we are throwing that money around like that go call Kiffen, Lincoln, or Day because they will come to the table.

A job as big as TCU? I’m not sure he’d even take our call.

He only made less then 5 million at Washington.

Well, it's got to be a top 30-40 college football job at this point. I didn't know he was doing quite that well. I pretty much don't watch the NFL at all. Good for him. I'm not surprised; he was a heck of a player.
Man, I’d take him in a heartbeat, but it wouldn’t surprise me a lick if he’s HC of the Detroit Lions by January 10th.

Chris Petersen sounds like a noble guy with the right priorities. I'd be very pleased to call him coach of TCU.

That being said, with the portal and NIL, we are in the dawn of a new era. My understanding, is that he wasn't excited about NIL either because he got in to coaching as a vehicle to impact young men.

So I'd want to know what his perspective is on it. I wouldn't want him to sacrifice his vision or value, but would be curious to see if he has used this 2 years to gain new insight on how to live in the new era while still pursuing your greater purpose.

Simply amazing what I see on here sometimes.

I mean, c'mon man, are you this freaking delusional?
