By Paul Sullivan, Tribune reporter

NEW YORK — The ongoing problems with the Cubs' middle relief corps have forced the organization to consider alternatives only two weeks into the season.

But calling up former first-round draft pick Andrew Cashner is not currently under consideration.

"There's no way," assistant general manager Randy Bush said before Monday's game at Citi Field. "He's in the rotation at (Double-A) Tennessee. He's been pitching great and the plan is to keep getting him innings, let him keep learning and developing, and hopefully it's clicking for him."

Cashner pitched last night... 7 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K ... and got the no decision... ironically he will fit well in the Cubs starting rotation...

Cubs suck and will continue to do so. Wish Cash the best though. Glad they are not going to rush him and stay true to letting him develop into a starter. Since that is what they are horrible at. Rushed Samardzija to the Pros and flip flop him between pen and starter and it has hurt him. Did the same thing to my girlfriend's brother (except the rushing part). They would have him close for a month, then start, then back to pen, then called up to pen, then back down to start. I would have to think that hurts the players throwing and mentality.

Hope they allow Cash some time and commit to him being a starter. He struck out a top prospect last night with a 96-97 fastball on the outside corner. Very nice fastball.
