I know he is recruited as a TE and looks to be a pretty solid TE. However, since we really don't utilize TEs that much, he has the size and speed to be a solid LB. Anyone know if he played defense in HS as well?

Sorry if covered already.

Just saying i think he would be better utilized at LB if he was able to play the position. Especially since our need at LB is much greater than at TE (a position that we always underutilized IMO).

I think he, Gilbert, and even Ballard are going to be underused unless our offensive philosophy changes to that which the Patriots run.

What about TE Bryson Burtnett? The advantage he has is he is already on campus and would have all spring to make the switch.

With Gilbert, Reid, and Burtnett, I gotta imagine we're gonna start utilizing the TE in the passing game more often.

I know we've all been saying that for years, but come on, we are gonna have so many weapons at that position, it would be silly not to use them

My hope is that we change our offensive philosophy. Maybe bringing in guys like Reid and Gilbert will be the catalyst we need to get on with it...

You rather allow a 6'4 230 athlete who runs 4.54 get on the field maybe 20 times a game and touch the ball maybe once on offense? Especially when we have a need at LB and have had 4 TEs sign in the past two years.

Just because he is 6'4 230lb, athletic TE that can run doesn't mean he can play linebacker. This isn't a video game, a little more goes into it than plugging in body-types...

Yeah, I realize that. That is why I asked if he played offense and defense in HS. And our coaches have a bit of success with making the transition. I realize that if he doesn't have it, then he doesn't have it and should stay at TE. But his athleticism and size is something we could use at LB.

We built their family's house for them about 4 years ago. Maybe I should stop by for a random quality inspection and while I'm looking at how the grout is holding up, I can ask him.

I was thinking Burtnett could be a good fit at LB. I don't know how being 6-foot-5 might hinder him. You don't often see linebackers that tall, but I'd be willing to give him a look.

For those who are for giving the ball to the tight end more, who do you plan to take touches away from? We're deep at both RB and WR, and the big play potential is far greater there. I think they can get more touches than they are currently (and especially could have helped Tre), but I don't think a major philosophical change is going to be beneficial. With the improved run game, maybe we'll see them get more looks in the play action passing game.

Didnt use them with CP either the first 4 weeks in 2012. Sadly I just don't believe it will happen

I've heard Burnett may grow into an OT and Reid will play some FB as well...he carried it a bunch at All Saints so he knows how to line up in the backfield.

No way any of these guys as LBs. In the Big 12 especially you need almost big DBs to play LB.

I bet we move down J. Anderson to OLB this spring with all the safties we have.

Well, I am actually Gary Patterson. And I was just taking a poll, because I cannot figure out what to do with him right now. But looks like I will just keep him at TE.

Thanks Frog Fans.

This whole thread and nobody mentions the 3 (hopefully 5) 2013 recruits we will sign in February? All of those guys will be way more prepared to play LB than Reid or Burtnett come August 31.

I'm on board the Jonathan Anderson to LB train though.
