Charleston Gazette-Mail: TCU’s 10-run inning sinks Mountaineers 14-5
MORGANTOWN -- The first 10-run inning in Mon County Ballpark came on the wrong side for WVU head coach Randy Mazey’s squad as the Mountaineers dropped their series opener against TCU 14-5 Friday night.
“We hadn’t been in this situation recently,” Mazey said of losing the series opener. “The good thing is, we were down by nine runs about two minutes ago and [Saturday] when the game starts, it’s going to be tied.”
What was advertised as a pitchers duel between West Virginia’s Alek Manoah and TCU’s Nick Lodolo turned out to be all offense for the Horned Frogs (25-19, 7-9 Big 12) with a pair of home runs by Johnny Rizer early followed by the massive seventh inning.
