Read and heard of a Chad Hawkins, 36 year-old Arlington Heights teacher, who was caught messing around with a female student in his car the other night. On The Ticket, they received information saying this is the same Chad Hawkins who was a SP for Baylor and was a first round draft pick by the Rangers back in the day. They said there were storied of Chad in college being a very religious person.

These stories just make me sick. If you are training or studying to become a teacher, there are basically a few things you can't do. And at the top of the list is you can't sleep with you students.

Speaking of, I am assuming no laws are broken if it is a college professor and a college student? Obviously, frowned upon and probably you would be fired. BUT, I always wondered if there were any laws against it.

They changed the law recently where the age of the student does not matter. A 22 year old teacher could go to jail for sleeping with a 18 year old student. I don't know if the school level matters.

Not anymore no.

Just thought it was a story some would care to know about with it being local and a former Baylor athlete.

Mods can delete or move, I don't care much.

No harm, no foul, YAH. It's just when I see threads entitled "<<insert name here>> Arrested," I don't know whether to panic or to get all schadenfreuddy.

In his car?? What, was this in the school parking lot?

What a tool. Dude needs to never be allowed to teach again, and if the girl was under 18 he needs to go to jail.

Here is the Texas Penal Code Statute

(A) enrolled in a public primary or secondary school in the same school district as the school at which the employee works; or
(B) a student participant in an educational activity that is sponsored by a school district or a public or private primary or secondary school, if:
(i) students enrolled in a public or private primary or secondary school are the primary participants in the activity; and
(ii) the employee provides education services to those participants; or

No laws against it in college. Definitely frowned upon and the university may have said professor pursue alternative employment and let them transfer

Pretty sure I remember they also changed it to include all schools within a district. So a teacher in Keller ISD couldn't with any student at another KISD school think the old rule was only at same school it not allowed if the student was of age.

People are going to jump on me for writing this and find every reason to disprove my point. I also know I'm going to hear that these people in the news are sick individuals and not all male teachers are this way. My opinion might sound hypocritical at times for the reason of my starting a business around children but after the increasing number of negative news and years of experience I have built up this belief that men should not be around children for 8+ hours a day.

I would like to preference that I have a franchise within the children's service industry and my sole reason to start the business was for profit only, nothing else. To tell you the truth it took months of convincing to buy a franchise, I really didn't want to be in an industry around children because it is not un-natural line for men. While my business is profitable I have decided to move onto the greener pastures to be a desk jockey, my initial dream job out of college. I have concluded that men are not designed to be around children all day, it isn't in our DNA. I am very very skeptical when a man really wants to work around children for an extended period of time unless they're in desperate need of a job. Men are not and were not constructed to be the nurturing type and surround themselves around children unlike women. I only hire women.

I know I will also hear the argument that "I'm a father and I believe I'm perfect for my kids" which I 100% agree with but surrounding yourself with other people’s children for 8 hours a day on a day to day basis is un-natural. The only exception that applies is if a school requires a coach to teach during the day. Please think back to your days when you were a single guy without kids, did you have a profound interest to be around kids all day? Most would say no. I have empathy for those that seek fulfillment to mold character or lecture but this should only be practiced around those that are 18+ years. I AM NOT IMPLYING THAT MALE TEACHERS MOVTIVE THAT CHOOSE TO WORK AROUND CHILDREN or TEENS ARE FOR SEXUAL DESIRES, I'm merely stating that choosing to be around children 8+ hours a day is not in our cards and should not be practiced. Our makeup pushes men into the hunter and gather role/jobs not the to follow the nurturing role/jobs. Look at the flipside, a woman that really desires to work in construction strikes most of us as odd, generally women dislike the notion to sweat and work with their hands all day because it is not how god constructed them.

How many of you test, size up, or keep a close eye on any male that is around your children for an extended period of time? Do you do the same with a female teacher? Look at the for profit schools, how many of them have male teachers? Very very little because they know it is odd and there are more consequences with them. I can tell you all so many stories and court settlements that never reach the public, it happens more then you all think. Ask any for profit school owner about why they don't hire men, ask them to be bluntly honest.

Male guidance is important and should only be practiced in short periods or during a sports settings with adults around. Take what you want out of my post but after owning a business around children for the past 6 years this is my opinion.

saw the news stations camera crews rolling last night by Arlington Heights HS as me and the ole lady were returning to the casa with a six pack of Abita Mardi Gras beer from central market... crazy!
