His record speaks for itself. Naysayers be gone.
2017. 11-3, AP9.Well, for the last 5-6 years of his career he was, the record clearly shows that.
But his overall body of work is deserving of the CFHOF.
New world of college football. Patterson was awesome, and built this program, but it was basically the dinosaur era considering todays circus.I hesitate to mention this but does this not place some pressure on our current football program and its performance?
Well either you go to the circus or stay home.New world of college football. Patterson was awesome, and built this program, but it was basically the dinosaur era considering todays circus.
for sure. and everybody expected him to get in first ballot. We are at an event in Little Rock a few years ago and another great big time coach was singing Gary's praises. Said he is one of the best defensive minds in the history of college football and one of the most respected HC's he saw. And as everybody always says, he said GP "did it the right way."First ballot inductee...kind of a big deal.
meh ... I would be so quick to count it up that way. example: Mario is more old school than most. Sure, he plays the portal game, but he more Gary than McGuire.New world of college football. I have not doubt he could take a big program bigger still. His record speaks for itself. Naysayers be gone.
This whole thing is ridiculous, especially the bolded part.GMFP needs to be at a mega-program. He would murder it at LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, etc. He’s not going to become as asskisser so he needs the program to overcome his hard ass approach so kids will take it and be happy. The notion of him being USC DC is along this line.
Alternatively, he needs to be at a program where everybody universally agrees he’s too good to be there. Because in that situation nobody would get their feelings hurt by the legend being hard nosed. That was TCU…then he made the program too successful and it ate the man who made it. Houston was absolutely stupid not to hire him a couple of years ago as their head coach. He could have whipped them into shape pretty quickly.
I met Newman once at a Christmas house party here, he was about the most unassuming "celebrity" I had ever met. It was right in the middle of his better years as a Cowboy and this party was full of a bunch of nobodies like me, had no idea why he was there. Very nice person, not a hint of arrogance.always wondered what k-state football would have accomplished had gary followed ron prince as was the plan until a talking head, tim fitzgerald, blew before the fact and gary walked. snyder returned for 2.0 and went on to win a championship in 2012 with now head coach collin klein at qb. but klein was recruited by prince and would have been there with patterson. oh well, what ifs are just that. good on coach for making the hof with our terence newman. obviously, we hold both wildcats in high regard.
