Not sure how to keep up with the year to year justifications. Pretty sure they emphasized a 13th data point. As in how do we know they would have gone undefeated had they played one more significant game?
Right, but they emphasized that 13th data point due to the fact that we had equal resumes (other than that), so it was a tiebreaker.

They have stuck to that every single year, never waivered.

Fun stat: With the Big Ten being excluded this year, the conference has not scored a point in the College Football Playoff since the 2014 season's CFP final 4 seasons ago.

It’s amazing the facts people ignore Our situation and NDs aren’t even remotely similar. Had ND lost to Michigan and been 11-1 instead of 12-0 they’d have been completely out of the conversation.

You’re right, except TCU didn’t have a 13th data point because our conference chose not to have a ccg. ND, on the other hand, chooses not to be in a conference where they might be subject to a ccg

Thanks to the cfp they have now been rewarded so there is no reason for them to ever join a conference.

Yes that’s right but Notre Dame normally schedules very well and they never play the worthless FCS game. Even then, had they lost a game this year they’d have been completely out of the conversation sitting at #7 or so.

If I’m ND I take my chances on making the playoff via undefeated 12 game seasons versus a 13th game ccg vs. Ohio State, Alabama, or OU every year. Now that the P5 conferences all have a ccg the 13th game should now be a requirement. Using historic prerequisites as though they are tablets of stone in an ever changing landscape is less than brilliant.
