Colorado rallies, blocks Georgia Tech's walk-off field goal try​

ATLANTA -- Colorado freshman quarterback Julian Lewis hit tight end Charlie Williams for a 20-yard touchdown with 42 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, lifting the Buffaloes to a last-minute, 14-13 win against Georgia Tech on Thursday night in a season opener.

Georgia Tech looked like it could pull off the improbable when quarterback Alberto Mendoza found receiver Dalen Penson for a 42-yard gain, putting the Yellow Jackets in field goal range. But Boo Carter blocked Aidan Birr's 45-yard attempt, and the Buffaloes stormed the field.

Just watched the video feed from the booth. They got it right. The TV clock was slightly ahead of the field clock, and the field clock still showed :01 when the out-of-bounds defender first touched the ball.

If that’s the case, that’s good. It looked like a terrible call on TV. I was watching at a restaurant with no sound so couldn’t hear what was being said but it didn’t even look all that close to me.

It seemed inexcusable live, but they were showing the TV clock. The replay guys were watching a synched camera shot of the field clock. You can hear them talking it through and it was clear.

How on earth do you have a TV clock that is different from the field clock?

The TV clock appears to be a video feed from a camera showing a clock, presumably in the stadium.

Are they saying they have a different clock for TV, and instead of it being an inset digital clock, they film some other camera that shows a different time from what the stadium clocks show? The one shown on screen sure looked like a video feed of a camera, not like the cameras you see in the "score ticker" above the video in a basketball game.

It feels like another "don't believe your own eyes" moment.

Come on. The field clock is synced to the broadcast, that's how it's always been. They even reset the game clock right before the play so there was zero ambiguity about half seconds or anything like that. Then after the play this heretorefore entirely unknown super secret clock shows up that magically has 1 extra second on it?

That stinks. Anyone watching it knows it stinks, and the Big Ten putting out a deep fake with a made up clock makes it even worse. Might as well call it the "Special Edition" and ask George Lucas to add Jabba the Hutt and Hayden Christensen in to it while we are at it.

The mystery gets deeper because the initial statement they put out clearly states that they used a direct shot of the game clock in the stadium.
