Questionable impact on BYU. JR was an average QB with high number of turnovers and low completion percentage. He seemed to have hit his ceiling, which was not great. Lots of bonehead plays.
3 QBs to choose from, 2 with experience. 1 played at Utah St but is short. Another at Western Michigan. Likely starter absent injury is Bear Bachmeier, transfer from Stanford. Bear is a 4* QB out of SoCal, whose older brother played QB at Boise, and another brother, Tiger, was at Stanford as a TE and graduated in 2.5 years, and now is also at BYU. Bear graduated high school early and won the starting job at Stanford as a true freshman.

I never want to downplay a sexual assault, but BYU just seems like a place following a retro-1950s code where everyone is supposed to marry before one's hands or genitals touch the same on someone of the opposite sex. I'm sure many female co-eds want to fool around in the backseat with the campus quarterback and maybe things went from kissing to touching or more in the heat of the moment with Jake and the girl. I'm glad it's resolved and hope everyone moves on.
When a kid goes to BYU, one has to be cognizant of the difference between Provo and everywhere else. They have their code and are entitled to it. My experience with Mormons professionally and socially has all been good. I'll take a Mormon over a televangelistic follower or holier-than-thou Baptist any day, every day.

JR signed an agreement with regards to playing at BYU. It is pretty much "don't get caught" with regards to enforcement.
BYU these days is much forgiving of "oops" we went to far.... short probation, likely not missing games.
Upon investigation, JR ignored the rules, and violated them, including hooking up for a one-night with Utah co-ed. He knew about the potential lawsuit and did not inform the school. He paid off the girl after the lawsuit, after BYU could not get an experienced transfer. He screwed BYU over.
