Texas Tech emerges as Big 12's clear frontrunner in latest ESPN FPI rankings

Most rightfully predicted the Big 12 Conference to be one of college football's tightest title races, and so far, that has played out. However, it does seem like an upper tier is separating from the pack, led by one team.

That program is the Texas Tech Red Raiders. They enter Week 7 looking like the class of the conference and arguably own the best Big 12 win, a road victory over Utah. The Red Raiders have the best offense in the country (568.8 yards per game) to go along with the fourth-best scoring defense (11.2 points per game).

BYU, Utah, TCU, Iowa State, Arizona State, and Cincinnati appear to be the conference's second tier, with all six teams falling below the level of Texas Tech.

Other than the Utah game, which is a great win. What screams greatness about Tech? I may be wrong, but I am not sold yet.

I know I am Frog fan, but the 1 loss to ASU makes the Frogs a 2nd tier team to Tech? I watched the Utah/Tech game and Utah played horrible. I don't think UH is that good either. Oregon State is terrible. I am just saying that all the Tech is head and shoulders above the rest of conference is crazy to me. I see them losing to Kansas, ASU, and BYU.

Utah played their worst ball in that game, and is not as good as billed. We played ASU on the road, and would have won had we not shot ourselves in the foot 3 times.

If TCU won that game, would it be said that they are ahead of Tech? I see all these teams very close, and it is going to come down to the wire for top 3 spots. There is no clear-cut lead dog in this conference.

ASU lost to Mississippi State, who was picked to finish last in the SEC.

I don't see them losing to those three. I'd bet about anything against that. They haven't just been winning, but dominating.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Kent State, Oregon St. ? They did dominate these guys
Utah played terrible and Houston is at or below average team.

MSU won on a fluke play with less than a half of a minute left in the game.

Do you really think Miss St. is going to finish last in the SEC?

Probably not but they’ll be close. They are 0-2 now. Look at the rest of their schedule. Who are they gonna beat other than Arkansas? Maybe they’ll pull off an upset or two, I don’t know, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Do you have them losing a game?
I think ASU and BYU are question marks for Tech. They get BYU in Lubbock.

I'm wondering how the Utes win some more. That team has the worst injury timing. They lose the gadget tight end in the Tech game (he got gimped up early too). And 3 key guys got banged up at the WVU game. Hopefully they aint as bad as thought.

Not sure who they beat in conference other than Arkansas and Texas. I think the bulldogs can beat both those teams if they show up. We'll know more about Arkansas after this week. either Petrino is the fix, or they screwed.
