Should we wind up being invited to the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl in Tempe, AZ, does anyone have any insight as to the best city to stay (e.g. Tempe vs. Scottsdale)?

Scottsdale borders Tempe on the north. It is very close, and that is where I would stay.

I like the Phoenix area and I'll be there if possible. ASU is a nice campus and I bet the time will be fun.

That's hilarious.
I must admit Scottsdale has changed quite a bit since I left in 1989. What is now "South Scottsdale" was North Scottsdale back in the 70's and 80's. People used to literally ride horses around Old Town and we could dove hunt near the Scottsdale airport. Lots of land, 4 wheeling, and clean living back in the 80's.

At the Fiesta I stayed in Tempe instead of Scottsdale. I prefer the area around ASU, I like the college feel. We even went in and looked around Sun Devil Stadium.
There was this little cafe near the ASU campus that had awesome breakfast! I'd never tried green chile gravy before, but it is heavenly.

One place that I'll always go to eat when I hit that area is Lolo's. It was great!

This is one of two bowls we'd attend. The other is the Holiday Bowl. I'll send a message to you, asking for hotel advice. Every time we've been to Phoenix, we've stayed in the area of 24th and Camelback. We're ready for something different.

I love Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, etc.
Surprisingly great food - My favorite is Don & Charlies.
Golf is just flat amazing.
I could play Ocotillo every day for the rest of my life and be pretty happy.
Harry Carry used to close down Don & Charlie's every night during spring training.
