Barry is saying they had a chance to address it early on, before publication actually, and stayed silent.Barry completely dodges the actual issue. The Star-Telegram made the claims. They said Fields was targeted, insulted, threatened, spit on, repeatedly went to coaches, and TCU made “no attempts to de-escalate.” It is not TCU’s job to prove their unnamed source wrong. It was the Star-Telegram’s job to verify those claims before they printed them.
Now we have the victim’s account, Fields own texts, witness statements and the arrest affidavit. What backs up any of that original narrative?
Barry wants to lecture TCU about how “grown-ups” act. How about some grown-up journalism.
Was Fields being targeted, threatened and spit on? Did he repeatedly complain to coaches? Did TCU make “no attempts to de-escalate”? What backs that up?
How is this "dodging" the actual issue (which really isn't the "actual" issue, that is the attack):
Buddie, a fellow native Northern Ohioan, was certainly entitled to complain about reporting he believed was wrong.
But he and his first-string media handlers failed to provide factual counter-evidence, on or off the record. And what Buddie was not required to do was punish the newspaper by taking away its access.
That is the narrative and now TCU has a PR nightmare that will last and last....
He doesn't dodge the issue at all and in plain English states that Buddie could have handled it early on and didn't.
