Bud Kennedy needs to explain himself.

Not accurate. He was immediately taken to the trainer, evaluated, and taken to the team doctor. The doctor ordered a CT to rule out a brain bleed, and when Dozie complained of ringing in his ears, he immediately sent him to the ER and called ahead for an urgent CT.

Saying TCU “waited almost two hours” to get him medical attention is false. A team physician is a doctor, with substantially more medical training than a paramedic riding in an ambulance, and also knows the player and his medical history. Acting like he went almost two hours without medical care is just wrong.
Did he say, “waited 2 hours to get medical attention,” or did he say, “waited 2 hours to get him to the ER?”

Like most on here I am not qualified or informed enough to evaluate the length of time it took to get Dozie a CT scan. I imagine that every situation is different and it's not even automatic that you are sent to the ER after being knocked out.

What isn't lost on me, though, is the irony that the role of Bud's paper was to take the side of the attacker and publish information, later withdrawn by the "sources" but not the newspaper, that the assailant was bullied, maybe by the victim himself.

I would imagine there are specific symptoms that would cause medical personnel to send someone to the ER or not (and in this case it sounds like it was more accurately "send him for a CT scan"). Given that, I would think the situation could develop from a case without need to send him into a case where you DO need to send him.

To me, the clock of "waiting" would start from the point you determine it is necessary.

The deliberate wording: "Waited two hours to take him to an ER" would lead one to the conclusion that TCU Football Staff callously left poor Dozie confused and in pain while they scoffed at his injuries and obvious pain, only relenting after two long hours of doing absolutely nothing. Bud is using all his scrivening might here to hurt TCU, and could not give a ripe crap about facts which might be inconvenient to his bitter fancy.

Banning those scumbags from TCU was a good move. Crap like this article confirms it.

Potential big issues from that report. The kind of stuff that causes major legal troubles and folks to get fired. If my son was beaten to unconsciousness in the locker room and staff didn’t immediately call 911 for an ambulance to get him to the hospital I’d be ripping the Brilesboobs on some folks. Once they start reviewing texts and calls the whole story of who knew what and when they knew it will be clear.

Uncanny time for SD to opt out of coaches shows for a couple of weeks. I’m quite certain the Dublin Disaster has little to do with that decision.
You left out the part where Dykes and Buddie were seen stepping over his bleeding near lifeless body. All while a shallow grave was quietly being dug beneath the Texas HS football statue.

From a fan's pov, this is one of those situations where your perspective on the situation depends on how you feel about the program. Playing out in this thread pretty much exactly like that.

Maybe, but I'm going to guess that players have been knocked out on the field and not immediately sent to the ER or sent for a CT scan.

Boxers aren't automatically sent to the ER if knocked out; they are observed for indications that further treatment is appropriate.

As someone who has coached multiple sports and been through concussion protocol training I know that every situation is different and should be reacted to based upon specific observation.

I guess I have purple glasses on but I don't see how they handled any of it incorrectly. Our medical team is better than some random paramedic showing up. People are acting like they just left him laying on the ground for two hours.

We can talk about team culture and if it was right to pull the credentials, but from the medical side, what else could they have done?

Right. I'm pretty confident that in real time the people in charge did what they thought was right with the information they had at the time. In hindsight sometimes you wish you had done something a little differently, but that's human error.

Yep, and the pushback in this thread relates to a ST writer, having no more insight than any of us, publicly accusing TCU employees of unnecessarily waiting.

Every situation is different and I'm certain the correct protocol is to observe and if you see something that indicates a need for further treatment, you seek that treatment immediately.

It seems that there is no reason to believe this is not what happened, which makes the tweet reprehensible.

Regardless of anything else, thank God that Dozie appears to be recovering and will be OK.

Is it acceptable to criticize that "human error" though? I think that's fair game isn't it?

I think the people thinking the TCU staff sat on their hands while Dozie was sitting there alone and concussed are are kind of projecting. The article never says that and the police report posted in the article rebuts that idea. He received some level of treatment from the athletic department pretty much immediately. But it also seems like a mistake, hindsight or otherwise, to wait that long to get a player to the hospital when that player ultimately ended up in the ICU.

I think some people who really know next to nothing about what happened are jumping to criticize, because they are kind of looking for anything to be critical about since we aren't winning enough. That's kinda my point. There is some piling on happening here.

I think were we 11-1 last year and coming off a 42-6 win over UNC, the narrative would be entirely different. Call me cynical.

Actually I don't think it is fair. Medical personnel make decisions based upon how the are trained and what they observe. If they take the correct action based upon what they see, they are acting correctly. If something happens that they couldn't reasonably foresee, that isn't human error. If they miss an obvious sign, that should be criticized.

This actually relates to what has become of our medical profession over my lifetime. My dad was a physician and hated that he sometimes had to practice "defensive medicine". He had to test for everything in case there was something not at all reasonable that cropped up, lest he be sued for "missing it". This exact thing has added tremendous cost to our medical care system.

We have gone from a world where "sometimes bad things happen" to a world where "everything that happens is someone's fault".

You never want something catastrophic to happen but providers shouldn't have to be psychics.

somone's going to take the fall for this. tcu is being killed on the internet and on air fox news/espn. fox even used the exact words "cover up"

leach got fired for far less.
We’re getting bodied by the media and on social media. Shoddy reporting has definitely contributed to this, and it’s reprehensible. However, TCU needs to get out there and set the record straight. The longer they wait, the more this story is going to take on a life of its own. And that story is damaging the institution every minute right now.

Pullin needs to tell our attorneys to go sit in the corner for a minute and address this to the media with honesty and transparency.

Fans will be fans. The problem appears to be the local paper’s ill advised reporting followed by ill advised attacks.

What "cover-up"? They released the actual police report and indictment!

The fact that the jabbering monkeys that make up the SportsMedia are beating on us is unsurprising. They want to gin up OUTRAGE and drive clicks, and a BS narrative like this is just the thing. It will last about 48 hours, and then the slobbering herd will move on to the Thursday Night tilt between Coach Prime (and his secret weapon: The colostomy bag!) and Georgia Tech, at which point the whole thing fades into the background while other Narratives Of The Moment take over and burn out in succession.

As to Leach, they wanted him gone because he chewed up the "Leadership" at Tech, and they hated him beyond all rational consideration. Any excuse would do, and, as they are a State school, any money spent on buyouts, legal expenses, monetary judgements, etc., would all be OPM. They could indulge in their petty hatefest without consequence. Our situation is somewhat different, in that we would need to get donors to cough up the money to get rid of Sonny, and that pool of funds is dry.

You really don't know what you are talking about and should hush. That TCU trainer did well and acted professionally. I once personally rushed an athlete to the emergency room in a car after I and a physician made a decision that waiting for an ambulance was too long. The surgeon that repaired the ruptured illiac artery and saved the kid from bleeding to death internally, told me that that 15-20 minutes saved his life.
If somebody loses consciousness due to a head injury you call an ambulance and get him to a hospital asap…you don’t check to see if he’s ok then go and get the team doctor and get his opinion. This was about protecting the program, people ask questions when players wind up in the hospital especially if you call for an ambulance to the football facility. Questions that Sonny didn’t want to answer. They tried to do this quietly and it could have cost the kid his life. D1 players have died because the first instinct was protect the program at all costs. We were very lucky!
