Haven’t posted in a long time and hate to pour gasoline on the fire here but I have to say. We win this game with Briles at OC. This win by one point philosophy with mediocre players is not going to be competitive. Sonny’s success came with GP’s players and a few portal surprises.

Hoping they give Schobel some reps over the next two games.

Meh. With Briles we would have a QB trying to throw to receivers who had almost no separation, which would have resulted in multiple picks.

The WR situation is my biggest concern right now.

Zero weapons on offense. Opposing defensive coordinators are laughing at the TCU offense tape.
three years after having Five pro players in skill positions on offense. How you don't leverage that into serious talent is beyond me. Almost like throwing a baseball doesn't qualify you to sign off on talent...and clearly whether a mobile QB impacts the game.

Sonny's biggest crime was wasting 2022 moving forward

We aren't getting another QJ anytime soon. The game has changed. We have to buy the next one.

I've never been a fan of sonny, but the downward trend in talent since 2022 is everything about money (or lack of it for us). (Most of) the best talent is getting bought. We have to find the talent that was missed, develop it and hope they don't get poached too quickly.
Yes. And people still can’t understand that.

We win this game with Briles at OC.
I've seen this repeated quite a few times in the last day and a half. It's probably true. And so what?

The program is in a sorry state and it will get worse before it gets better. As I said in the gameday thread I thoroughly enjoyed our victory over USC at The Alamo in Dec but even then I was worried it would just extend our time with Dykes and thus our status as a lower 3rd Big XII program who's new ceiling is a [ Finebaum ]-tier bowlgame when just a few years ago we were perennially in contention for the four team playoff & had numerous prestige BCS era bowl game victories under our belt.

Pulling a win out of our ass yesterday does what exactly? Make the season outlook 5-7 instead of 4-8? Maybe worm our way into a cheesy snack like-substance bowl?

That only delays the inevitable: we need to clean house. Gary Patterson was fired after not even a handful of those kind of seasons...... after nearly two decades of success that you have to go back to pre-WWII to have any comparison here for. The only "success" Dykes has had were with Gary's recruits and a couple fortuitous outcomes (for him) that made the previous two year's records look better than they actually were.

Eeking out a win against mediocre (or worse) opponents has not been a solution, it's prolonged the problem.

I don’t think you know what “perennially” means,

Exactly. AND it would not change the reality that 4th down calls in the red zone are made by Sonny. See last year. See every year he has been here.

My usage was accurate: long lasting and repeated.

I know you have a tenuous grasp on the definitions of many words you often use, in addition to a distinct lack of awareness and insight. This combination makes your pedantry particularly tiresome.

I don't think you know what "in contention" means.

In 2014, 2015, and 2017 we were in the top 5 until selection day, early November, and late October. I would say that put us in contention each of those years.
This was our ranking in both the first CFP ranking in October and the last when the selections were made for the entirety of the 4-team playoff...

2014 - 7/6
2015 - 8/11
2016 - NR/NR
2017 - 8/15
2018 - NR/NR
2019 - NR/NR
2020 - NR/NR
2021 - NR/NR
2022 - 7/3
2023 - NR/NR

Perennially means year after year, and if you want to say we were in contention in 2017, ok. And the year we actually made the 4-team playoff, Dykes was on the sideline.

Hey, I'm all for firing Dykes. Let's do it. I don't think it'll make a whole lot of difference barring some big donors stepping up to buy players, but let's just clean house if it'll make everyone happy. I just get tired of the revisionist history as to what we were before he got here.

Yes, we were in contention in 2014, 2015, and 2017.

That's perennial. I suppose you can quibble with the definition of his statement "just a few years ago" (and I'm sure you will) but we were perennially in contention for that 4 year period.

I don't have a strong opinion about firing Dykes but I hope he's able to turn things quickly. As I said elsewhere, starting a new QB (FCS transfer or freshman) in game one against an FBS opponent is an unfortunate situation. Hoping that Craig can adjust over the next two games and be ready.

With the exception of, "perennially in contention for the four team playoff", I agree with your sentiment. We had a lot of success in the MWC and carried some of that into the B12, but that's since evaporated. It's natural to compare the current program to past success, but to be honest, it's such a drastically different landscape in CFB with NIL, revenue share and the portal, that I don't think it does us any good comparing the current program to a different era.

I think we need to dump sonny, but only if there is a guy worth picking up that puts us in a better position. Who is that guy? I cannot think of any bc it seems like most good "lower tier" coaches have already been poached the past 5 years.
