Breaking Down The Arkansas Hire

This hire was all about validation. The Arky fans were desperately seeking validation more than a coach who was the right fit.

Bret has never turned around a program. His only head coaching experience was with Wisconsin. Wisconsin was already running smoothly when Bret took over so in a sense they just wanted an auto pilot.

One of the most important things Arky needs is to rebuild their Texas pipeline and that looks like it will not happen. Bret recruited most of his players from the midwest and when he did move outside his region it was Florida where he had success. Bret had very little exposure to Texas. In regards to Arky recruiting against TCU there will be no improvement for Arky at best. If there is a recruit which is looking at both schools then Gary has the luxury of pulling out the Rose Bowl trophy and talking about that win over Bret's team.

In my mind this will be like mixing chemicals for which there is no known reaction. Should be fun to watch.

Well, I think after you get to number 6 or 7 on the list, you get to the point you are happy anyone says yes.

Same reason beer goggles can be a dangerous thing.

I love how the Hog fans are so excited and amazed his name never came up in the rumors.....maybe because he was never a serious candidate until Monday? After Franklin, Miles, Peterson, Patterson, Gundy, and who knows who else said "No thank you".

But I guess like all color glasses fans, all the other stuff was smoke screens to cover Long's real target....yeah right.

He has been to three straight Rose Bowls. Not sure how losing all three (he won't be there, but Wisky will get stomped the worst this year) shows you can somehow win a NC with Satan and Loony Les between you and just winning the division.

I would say he is a 6 out of 10 for a hire overall but probably an 8 for Arky given how screwed up their circumstances are right now. But he won't make 5 years if they really expect to win a NC in Fed'ville.

I could see it having some impact on OL recruiting in Texas. Can't see Bielema's going away from the Wisky style of power football, and if I were an OL prospect with NFL aspirations, I'd listen closely to his pitch, given Bielema's reputation for putting linemen in the pros.

Beerock yesterday:

"The President will highlight why it would hurt our economy and our nation's businesses if we do not find a solution to avoid another debt ceiling crisis, and will ask the business leaders for their help in supporting an approach that resolves the debt limit without drama or delay," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.”

Beerock in 2006:

"The fact that we're here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. Leadership means The Buck Stops Here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America's debt limit."
