Bowl Payouts - TCU's Bowl paying more than UT's

According to this source the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl has a higher payout $3.35 million per team than the Alamo Bowl $3.175 million. Second highest non-BCS bowl payout for Big 12 teams behind the Cotton Bowl $3.625 million. Here are all of the payouts for bowls with Big 12 teams this year...

Alamo - UT - $3.175
Holiday - Baylor - $2.075 million
Pinstripe - W Virginia - $1.8 million

At large teams get a partial share - somewhere in the 5 million range. So financially its a small hit for the conference. Lost the BCS but gained the Liberty.

Another way to look at it is that TCU's share of the money we lost on Oklahoma not making the BCS would be roughly half of the total television revenue we would have received if we were still in the MWC. The 10 MWC teams are getting $800,000 each in television revenue this year. That number would have been less if TCU was making them split it 11 ways.

the BW3 bowl is the best bowl in terms of payout, date and selection we've played in with the exception of the BCS bowls in the new era of TCU (98-now), we were selected 4th out of 10 Big 12 teams which is quite a compliment, this is a big deal and compliment to our program to be in this game

I'm guessing that they were tabbed for the Alamo and with everything else set as it is now (with ISU going to Dallas). Then when OU got bumped, they pushed down OU & Texas and just sent OK State to Dallas to help build that bowl game rather than making everyone change their plans thanks to Northern Illinois.

With the exception of UT being picked first out of the leftovers and the W. Virginia and Iowa St. placements, the Big 12 bowl selections are pretty surprising. Good to know that we've got an aggressive AD and some built-up cache - now we need to do our part as fans.

It was originally the Copper Bowl, but it hasn't been since 1996 and back then it was in Tucson. Recently it has been the Insight.com Bowl.
